    Gatling Gun Would You Rather???

If you could have a Gatling Gun that essentially functioned technology wise like an original but was not an accurate reproduction, would you rather it look retro like a weapon that could have been around in the 1860's or would you rather it looked modern or even futuristic/sci-fi? Assume for the sake of discussion that function, affordability, and legality would be the same for either option.

I want it to look like they did in the cowboy movies when I was a kid so I’m gonna go old school.

If I have to crank it, it better look historical.

I agree exactly. If I have to do the work it should look old. If it could be original tech EXCEPT an electric motor to run the crank shaft I would be ok with it looking futuristic.

To me a modern day version is a mini gun.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Old school is super cool. I'd have to see what "futuristic" looks like. Steam Punk might be cool too.

Hand-cranked? Yeah I'd want to make it look retro/old school, save for putting modern sights on it (easy to use iron sights and a rail to mount some kind of optic on it).

Electric powered? You bet I'm gonna want it to be as futuristic looking as possible. Toss in the red tracers and I'd want it to look like one of those Star Wars E-Web heavy repeating blasters.

I wouldn't want original because of the cost and hassle with the ammo.

if I choose the old school one does it come with a trailer to haul it around on?

Like them " present-day-look " as in the present day GE 30 mm electric Gatling gun of the US and the equivalent Russian manufactured.

I would definitely want the original hand crank version. I don't care for any modern space cadet looking weapons.

Thank you for the replies. I have started accumulating parts to build one based on the 1862 (cap and ball original version). This week I found a set of gears that I am going to use and I have a bunch of chromed shafts that the gears fit on. I also have a bunch of pillow block bearings I was thinking about using as opposed to the friction bearings that they originally used. The question becomes, do I try to hide the bearings if I go that rout. I can essentially build a cover for them out of sheet metal and hide them. I do not have the equipment to cast brass so everything will be steel. I was toying with the idea of leaving all of the mechanism uncovered and kind of go for a post apocalyptic look. That said, I agree with most of you that say go vintage looking. I think I would regret it otherwise. I am leaning towards making it .50 cal. I have not started sourcing the barrels yet. I have some round stock I am planning on making the chambers out of. I am on the fence between buying barrels and making barrels. I am trying to do this on the cheap. I am also trying to make everything I can myself. I have the concept in my head and was going to build it based on rough sketches but I think I am going to try to actually draw it up in CAD and render a 3D model.

                              GE Mini Gun.

That is the studly-est Gattalin gun made. And, you do not have to crank a handle to shoot it.
