    5.56 Rattler

Anyone have a 5.56 SIG Rattler? When I first heard of them I thought it was a terrible idea, 5.5" barrel. My 10.5 barrel is horrible, I figured one that was less than half as long would be pure hell. Any comments from those that own one?

Those are extremely prevalent here in CA. Someone should be by soon to answer your question. Myself, I don't own one.

Ya, I know, but I've heard of more Rattlers on this site than others I belong to. Y'all got money.

Not me, that is why I didn't get one.

          A 5.5" barrel .223 looses about 1000 FPS over an 18" long one: http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/223rifle.html

At some point the phrase, "its bark is worse than its bite" becomes appropriate.

You want a short barrel? Start with a short cartridge that has a decent expansion ratio, in that length of barrel. You want 2000 FPS from a 5" barrel pistol, in a .22; consider this:

Or stick with the original 300 BO cartridge.

Now with 5.56 going for $0.70 a round, 300 BO for $1.00 a round isn't too bad, is it?

Or, stick with a 9 mm parabellum cartridge for pistols. Or a .45 ACP; or whatever floats your boat. Something that makes sense out of a pistol length barrel.

I don't see it anywhere for even a buck a round.

Thanks, I guess that's technically a buck a round. But since there's no brass to reload that's a no-go for me.

I was asking about the Rattler, but okay.

Not a fan of Dead Air. You need two hands to attach or detach, won't work telescoped into a handguard.

a friend had an ND into his truck with an 6" AK74.

The bullet dented to bed... It did not penetrate...

I don't know why anyone would buy a barrel that short.... other than for starting fires on the ground.... or fun...

IIRC you have to screw it on, and then lock it down with the collar. No?

The requirement for one hand can handling is not for this gun, but I want to use the can on my other guns. They will all use the YHM system. Nice thing about their mounts is you can screw on a .30 can onto a .223 mount. All my rifle cans will use the same mount. I don't want to put a key-mo mount on a Rattler and not be able to use the can on any of my other guns.
