So, a guy was having lunch with his wife and had a bolstered gun on his belt.
That is nice. Why would any one freak out about that??
MYOB, Even if you were in a freak state where open carry is not common. That guy could be a detective, an FBI agent, US Marshall, etc.
You should be happy that some one has a gun, since it sounds like you did not have one on you. If SHTF, that is the guy who could possibly save your life.

Damn, when I’m out hunting my rifle isn’t even in a holster. How does everyone survive?Comment

I have a open carry permit..... allows me to carry either way but I don't openly carry but if my weapon happens to peek out....last thing I need to do and act like I'm doing something wrong and panic....
OP should have said something
OP should have did something
OP should mind his own business or took his business elsewhere
Posting after the fact is...... sniveling

Same up here in counties north of Sutter county as late as the 80s, was very common to see rifles in rear window racks and people open carry handguns.sigpic

I understand why people don't want to be the "first target" or "get hassled". If have a desire (for any legal reason) to open carry then I do so, although it isn't my norm. Sure, I've been hassled but I just go on about my business.
In most places I've lived, people didn't even give me a second glance with OC. Here in Western (Northern California) Washington, people do notice. So what?Comment

I would argue that anyone with a half a brain would not think to take someone’s gun from them, odds are, that would end badly for that person.
But I wanted to THANK YOU for writing this. The replies were hilarious. I too believe in the freedoms of America. It seems like you are doing a bit of fat shaming and judging this man. Californians are so used to seeing naked people parade in the streets but not a big bad gun. I myself prefer cc, but that doesn’t mean we assume this overweight gentleman is hurting society by his actions. We have freedoms, which means people will disagree at times. I’m fairly confident that in places like Singapore, this would not be an issue. They have laws against it.
Quite the contradiction. Open carry will always present a presumably loaded firearm in plain view of the public. The only disaster sure to take place is in the minds of those offended by it.Last edited by Mr. Blue; 11-03-2020, 2:24 PM.Comment

So, he gave the impression that he wasn't aware of it, but you conclude that he was wearing it for "shock value"? I would think that if it was for shock value he would be looking around to see if anyone was shocked. ?He never even gave me the impression that he was aware of it, as if he had forgotten all about it. It was his body language and behavior. It was almost as if he was wearing it for shock value.
I always carry. 99% of the time it's concealed under a flannel shirt. Occasionally it's a hot day and I leave the shirt in the car. Either way I am aware of people who approach and their demeanor. I don't expect someone to run up and grab it, why would they?
I'm always puzzled by people who claim "you'll be the first one shot!" That just does not happen."Everyone must determine for themselves what level of tyranny they are willing to tolerate.

This is a possibility. It is also a possibility for those who CC and print. Someone who is very observant and notices one printing could take advantage of that.
No one has 100% of situational awareness. If one did, they would not be able to focus on the task they are doing or enjoy what they are doing at the moment. Some are better at situational awareness than others. Some are better at reading body language than others.
Now, you did not witness the situation described by the OP. We only have his description of it which shows a bias against open carry. It is obvious by his description of those who open carrying doing so for the shock value.
This is contradicted by the fact that others around him were not in shock and were going about their business. There were no Karen's point him out. No one called the police. It was a free state and free citizens are used to seeing this on a daily basis and my guess is if you were to ask those there many would comment they feel safer knowing someone has gun just in case a bad guy shows up.
Because I grew up in a violent situation, I prefer to no advertise my defensive capability so I prefer to CC. For those that prefer to OC, that is their choice and I will not criticize them. As an American citizen with their Second Amendment rights they get to choose how to exercise that right. I am a firm believer in Liberty.
We are loosing Liberty in this country and arguing against how one exercises a right plays into the hands of the anti-gun people as well as shows the Komifornica mindset.
This is also a big reason why NV and AZ have turned blue with all the CA refugees that have moved there.Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.
A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.
Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

And just how do you know what his "situational awareness" was? You assume much and know little about this person. All posts dedicated to the memory of Stronzo Bestiale
