Finally caved in and got a plastic gun...

Was at my second class at Front Sight last week. Had a great time, and was so much fun this time around because I brought some friends with me (went solo last time). Fired a gun for the first time in my life in February of this year, and head to FS in March. Went back last week for another 4DDH class (March's class was cut short when the given shut the state down because of Covid).

Took my 92FS both times. I'm very comfortable with the gun, love it, the look, the feel, and even like the challenge of the DA/SA under pressure in class. Made some changes to the firearm after the first class. I kept inadvertently flipping on the safety during malfunction drills and would get a click instead of a bang when pointing in to fire afterward. Installed a decoder kit and all those problems were solved. Also installed a D spring and oversized mag release.

Still having some trouble getting off two shots that are consistently accurate. I haven't been at this for that long, and admittedly haven't been dry fire practicing as much as a should. I'm actually more consistent and better with the DA pull compared to the SA pull.

In a moment of weakness I went out yesterday and bought a new SPringfield XD-9. I handled one while at FS that my buddy Brough and liked it. Doesn't look as nice as the Beretta, but wondering if I'll shoot more consistent with it.

Also have to really be conscious of resetting the trigger. I have a tendency to fly off the trigger instead of letting it out and taking up the slop without flying off the trigger.

Actually this is probably all just me making excuses to justify buying another firearm!

I don't like my Glovid-19 much but it's one the few guns where you can get so many aftermarket parts and augmentations. Got a cut on my slide to mount a red dot, extended mag release, extended slide release, metal sights... It hasn't ever jammed so there's that.
But the trigger suuuuuuucks and I was told that you're spending a lot of money for very little gain.

DON'T think I'd be changing guns, THIS close to the boogaloo!

And personally, I'M sticking with the 2-time defending world champ.

Good choice. Decent trigger on them. Next time at front sight have the armored install a double roll pin (they recommend it in their armored class) and shoot the piss out of it. And if you scratch it, no worries. It is combat Tupperware anyways.

Nothing wrong with that - as you speed up, you will have to start relying on your grip to absorb all the intricacies of fast trigger pull, including slapping the trigger and letting it reset fast...

Enjoy your new gun and know that we all support you, whatever excuse you end up settling on

Don't look at it as changing guns, look at it as adding another.

I have two Berettas and the XD now. Will add a 1911 eventually.

                  XD9 is a nice piece.

                    Good choice.

The grip angles are very close.
Changing from the 92FS to XD9 will feel natural.
During the winter when my hands get dry had a little issue with the grip.
Simple fix was add rubber grip tape.

Love mine and always seems to find its way into the range bag.
Give the trigger a chance to break in.

Like the button on rear of the slide.
Protruding button can be felt and seen just like a hammer.

                    I picked up the Tactical .40S&W 5".
Also a Storm Lake .40 to 9mm conversion barrel.

What model did you pick up?

I had 2 XDs but had to get rid of them, just didnt shoot them well. But I shoot Glocks like they are an extension of my arm. The XD trigger feels better than the Glock but for some reason it just didnt translate to better accuracy. The Glock just works better for me, grip hump, trigger and all. I guess Im one of the lucky ones, I feel bad for people that cant shoot glocks well.

Funny, so I had an Xd but in tactical long 40. Sold it cause I didn't shoot it much. Got an CZ, Walther, revolvers and finally after 5 years got a glock. Just can't get used to the trigger or angle.

Both the wife and I had the exact opposite experience. Couldn't stay consistent with them. Always pushing shots left. A lot. Also, had issues cycling JHP in the CA neutered mags.

LOVE the XD lineup. Shoot them well, consistent and NEVER a problem. Shoots JHP & FMJ all the same. Bought some Freedom Week MAGAzines for both. Even bought one for my next gun, the XD9 Subcompact. The XD9 has a 4.5-5 lb trigger pull and the XD45 has a 5.5-6 lb trigger pull. But both have a very manageable trigger and easy to stage.

And who doesn't love a 1911? My Les Baer still is tops. Shoots everything and super easy to shoot. Consistent 4lb trigger. Wearing in quite nicely too.

OP-You done good! And wife and I are still itching to try and get back to Front Sight. It's been over 6 years.

Ah... the addiction is settling into the bloodstream...

The XD is an excelled service pistol. Very popular and successful in the Service Pistol division of IDPA. If you havent yet, you might want to look into starting to compete in IDPA. You the weapons for it and it sounds like the training to compete safely.

If you're coming from an all metal 92 DA/SA, the big surprise will come on the form of recoil impulse. You'll experience a lot more muzzle flip.

The good news is driving the polymer gun will necessitate you're becoming much more aware of and attentive to your grip. A proper grip is more critical/essential to getting follow up shots off accurately and quickly with the polymer framed gun.

You can be a lot sloppier with the heavier all steel gun.
