He used to scoff at folks concerned about 2A, so it was a surprise when he asked me to help clean his guns.

He actually asked if I had any .22 while looking right at my stash of 2,850 .22LR and I told him I didn't have any to spare. (He had how many years to buy some and he didn't while I don't feel like covering other people's mistakes.)

It was a hard introduction for him to the state of 2A freedoms in California. He told me last night it would be easier to buy heroin than bullets in this state.

But here's the thing: he's thinking about it and what it all means to him and he doesn't like it.
The last time I shot one of my .22's was 1980-something.

I shoot 22s all the time! For teaching newbies, NOTHING better than a semi-auto 22lr rifle! I know the newbies really, REALLY want to shoot their new pistols, but I refuse until they learn the safety basics and operating basics of a 22 rifle.
Also, shooting a 22 brings back that youthful joy of shooting for fun---after a morning of shooting the centerfire guns---have lunch---and break-out the 22s as a way to finish the shooting experience...
Regarding the old guy with no ammo, certainly a CalGunner near him can go out shooting with him! Instead, I'm hearing a bunch of: "If he's had that 22 for 40 years and hasn't shot it or bought ammo for it, F*** him!" Not a friendly response at all... Help the guy out, bring another shooter back into the fold...

Wow...had no idea it was that tough. I knew ammo was more trouble in CA, but not that bad.

shooting .22's has always been a childhood learning caliber, something you shoot after moving up from shooting bb / pellet guns

I havent shot .22 in a long time , bringing a .22 to the range feels like firing a air rifle.

First off, give him 100 rounds, you can spare that. You can take him to the range and let him shoot that there so there is no issue with the transfer.

This would be a good will gesture and might win another person to our side, we can use all the help we can get. I do this at my LGR when a newbie shows up and cannot buy the ammo because the range is out of stock or brought the wrong ammo. I always bring more than I think I will use just in case.

In this time of hard to find ammo, I still can get all the .22 I want online. Right now I am visiting my son in Illinois and on the drive out the only ammo in stock at places I stopped on the 2000 mile drive out here was .22, some hunting rounds, mostly .30-06, and shot gun shells. I picked up some .22 even though I have a bunch at home. My C&R and COE is useful at times.

I have several .22 rifles, revolvers, and semiautos because they are fun and cheap to shoot.

Have your friend consider buying a Browning Buckmark, a great gun, or one of the many great .22 revolvers that can be had for not too much. That solves the issue of getting into CA system quickly to buy ammo and he just might get bit by the gun bug.

Of course he will quickly go broke like I did after I discovered C&Rs.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

I'll bet he's also voted democrat his whole life. Maybe this will open his eyes.

Don't give him the ammo or he'll just keep voting democrat because you made it easy for him. Make him jump through all the hoops he voted for all these years that infringe on our natural rights. That might make him finally question his beliefs.

I was about to say, I would just give him a box of 50 even though he's been a 2A scoffer. It'll be another 40 years before he shoots 22s again.

But you know him better. Maybe he needs to experience how bad it is first hand. Let him wait 2 weeks to get the 22. He probably voted for gun control so let him reap what he sowed.

Even with that small amount you can still pony up 50 rounds for a friend.

You said a friend wants to sight a .22! That takes all of 10 rounds at the most. Just give him a handful. Better yet, go to range with him so no one would have a hissy fit about ammo transfer.

Very definitely he should experience the process. He helped put it in place. Take him to the gun store and explain it to him in very plain terms since the LGS employee probably won't have the patience to do that. Make sure you tell him that you're not risking jail by giving him any ammo either. Again, "You voted for it" is your comment to him.
