    Problems Buying Ammunition

A friend has decided to sight in a .22 rifle he's had for more than forty years. The problem is, he hasn't purchased any firearms in the last twenty years so he's not in the ammo database.

He went out today to see about getting registered so he can buy what he needs, but two shops told him it would be easier just to buy a gun than go through the process of getting set up to buy.

Is this true? I thought it was possible to register with the state if you hadn't bought a firearm in the last five years.

He will pay $19, but it's not really clear when he will be registered at AFS. If he buys a firearm, he will get a better timeline, but the price is going to be much higher.

So he was the one in front of me in line. Actually, he wanted 12g, same issue.

You could overthrow the morons in Nov., & petition to re-join the United States.

We just walk into a store, plunk down some cash, and walk out again in 60-90 seconds!

                  This,

You said a friend wants to sight a .22! That takes all of 10 rounds at the most. Just give him a handful. Better yet, go to range with him so no one would have a hissy fit about ammo transfer.

He had a .22 for 40 years and did not buy any ammo when you could get 100 round packs for $3.25?? Rather strange.

I just had to go threw this hassel.
Went to buy some ammo but wasn't in the system. Been a few years since I bought any guns.
Ended up having to pay $19 for the background check and was told to come back in two weeks!
I have to wait longer to get ammo, then I would to buy a firearm! Totally rediculous. Don't see how this isn't a blatant violation of our basic constitutional rights.

So he owned a gun for 40 years and had no ammo for it? Sadness.
Another guy stuck with backdoor registration.

Forty years he had the rifle, who knows when he last shot the thing? Up to now, he didn't care about guns one way or the other and why should he? He spent a career as a civilian contractor working in heavily guarded Federal research facilities. He used to scoff at folks concerned about 2A, so it was a surprise when he asked me to help clean his guns.

He actually asked if I had any .22 while looking right at my stash of 2,850 .22LR and I told him I didn't have any to spare. (He had how many years to buy some and he didn't while I don't feel like covering other people's mistakes.)

It was a hard introduction for him to the state of 2A freedoms in California. He told me last night it would be easier to buy heroin than bullets in this state.

But here's the thing: he's thinking about it and what it all means to him and he doesn't like it.

This must be a troll story.

Or, you got some freaky friend.

I dont see why people go through typing pages of text to tell a story of basically nothing.
