Specific pistols are being considered SBR’s by the ATF - not braces specifically.
The Honey Badger, and two similar models are being called SBR’s because of all of their individual nuances.Originally posted by ysr_racerPlease don't bring logic and reason into an interwebs discussion

ATF Rules Q’s Honey Badger Pistol is a Short Barrel Rifle
Q, makers of the Honey Badger pistol, has just issued the following notice to its customers: Dear Customer: On August 3rd, 2020, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”) issued Q® a formal Cease & Desist letter, notifying us that ATF has taken the position that the Q Honey Badger Pistol is a short-barreled ... Q is fighting it, but if you own an AR pistol with a pistol brace, you might wanna stay tuned

Yep was just coming here to post the news. These braces were always a dance with the devil, even more so in CA.Last edited by SkyHawk; 10-06-2020, 6:42 PM.Comment

In Arizona they aren't and state police won't enforce. Just spoke with them today. Same thing with Maine State Police. They don't give a **** about some opinion letter.
It's not considered law. It's an opinion. That's all.
The Noveske Ghettoblaster is next I bet.

Yeah title is misleading. They CURRENTLY are not going after braces in general. They are going after particular pistols with a brace with an LOP longer than 13" while simultaneously having an OAL extended shorter than 26" and is capable of firing in that configuration. I dont agree with their ruling, but this is their reasoning.Comment

Agreed - suppressors and SBR/SBS restrictions need to go. Handguns are way more concealable than SBR/SBS which was the argument for their restriction in the first place.

So is it just not possible to remove the pistol brace and just have a regular buffer tube? It looks kind of strange, like the brace is somehow part of the gun, but I would think it could be removed and just be a pistol.Comment

Braces are used as stocks. I have never seen a single person use the brace as intended. That's what opens it up for interpretation, particularly in gun-hating jurisdictions such as CA.
Not a good idea to have it installed, whether technically legal or not. Just too much risk even if you end up cleared in the court in the end...sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment
