    Marines lose M4s?

Hey there. I was just talking to a young marine this morning, and he told me that all of their M4 carbines have been sold back to the manufacturer, and they are being re-issued old M16-A2s as a cost cutting measure. Has anybody else heard anything about this yet?

Being a young Marine, he's probably not very high on the chain of command!

it would be nice to get rid of the A2. man getting out of a HMMWV with body armor on is a pain. a M4 makes life so much better.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Budget, it seems like the Marines have a smaller budget than the Army.

These guys are getting some serious Obama cuts. He says that their pay is going to get slashed. In addition to losing the M4s, he said his unit has 47 Humvees, of which 26 are currently non-functional. And they don't have the money to get parts for them. That just blows.

I can see maybe his unit losing M4s and switching them out with a unit going over seas. There isnt a need for them if your not using them. If they arnt using the hummers, they may not have the priorities to fix them. All SM's need to have something to complain about or something isnt right

Hmm. The fact that the US Military is looking at "upgrading" some of the M16-A2 to an M4 type collapsible stock tells me that they're not going to be getting rid of the M4 carbine. Something also tells me that once the US Military has procured an item, they'll keep it until they completely replace it... Case in point: the M14. It hasn't been pulled from service... they just keep upgrading them and reissue them in much lower numbers and for a different purpose than a general purpose battle rifle.

                  ETA:

I like the idea of switching the M16's stock to a collapsible stock. Would like sick.

Hey, I was trying to figure the whole thing out myself. That's why I asked the question. You will notice the question mark at the end of the thread title. I certainly don't have any information on it, nor could I find anything out about it online. But this guy seemed pretty irrate about the whole lack of funding thing, and the potential cuts he sees on the horizon. Not to mention giving up his M4 for what he sees as an old clunker. Of course I would love to have that old clunker any day of the week, but that is neither here nor there.

The M16A2 isn't a clunker. We used them during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, it's definately not a clunker. Have you ever shot a M16A1? Shoot one and you'll understand what I mean.

(sigh) Why can't people read? Look at what I wrote. I said "HE SEES" quite clearly. You even cut and pasted that part of it. And my next sentence just as clearly states that I would love to have one. Have we all started drinking early, or what? First I get somebody taking my question as me making a statement of fact on dubious information. Then somebody else gets on my case for something I clearly didn't say, and just as clearly attributed to the original source. Get off my back already people. If you are too drunk to read the questions and posts, stay away from the keyboard until you sober up. I'm not trying to be rude here, but I have gotten flamed twice in one thread for things people thought that I said.

Heck yeah. Range and power of the 20" barrel, with a little length knocked off.

Still think we should go to a bullpup, though.
