I have an older 870, you can use it to pound fence posts in the ground all morning and Then hunt turkeys with it all afternoon . Most reliable shotgun made..... ya, like a poster said above, find a older one , you won’t be sorry.

Get a C&R FFL, drive to Arizona and pick out a nice Winchester Model 1897 or 12, or pre-1970 870.

I bought 2 of them (12 and 20) when Dicks was selling off all their gun stock last October.

I've shot mine several times while out plinking.

        No issues.

        No rust.

None of the problems that everyone warned me about.

Interestingly, the Serial Numbers seem to indicate that the barrels were made 10 years ago even though the guns were NIB on 2019.

Who knows how long these sat in a warehouse or were made from old stock?

          Older 870s

I currently find myself with three older 12 ga 870s---all polished blued---2 of them will only take 2 3/4" shells (fine with me)---one is 870 "Police" will take 3" shells, but I only keep 2 3/4" ammo around---all three set-up for defensive use (I stopped hunting and trap years ago)---all three function 100% with any ammo I can find!
One 870 was bought by a friend at Big 5 decades ago---he oiled it up and put it in a closet, but never shot it (pre-Flex-Tab) and it worked 100% the second I took it out with both it's original 28" mod barrel and a 21" rifle-sight barrel I had lying around---superb gun.
Somewhere along the line, Remington decided quality control didn't matter anymore and they just stopped caring and pushed product out the door and now the results are clear...

I have one of those cheap 870 express ones. Bought 26 years ago. Only one issue ever. After the 3erd year after shooting ducks in a real bad rain storm, I was cleaning it and accidently pulled the trigger with the trigger group removed from the gun. Broke some metal bar on it. Called remington Monday morning. $4.95 plus shipping and 4 days later it was back up and killing ducks. I still use it to this day (not as much but as a guest gun) and it works every time with any shell.

Good luck op, but I would try to contact Remington one more time.

I've had a Stoeger since 2008. That thing runs any shells. It's made in Turkey.

I have a brand new 870 Express sitting in the box in my crib. I've never even used it. Wonder if it's going to jam on me? I'll just use good ammo.

                    They're chapter 11... again...

Find a good REMINGTON gunsmith, and send Remington the bill. Then... hold your breath.

When I got my 2016 Rem 870 tactical first thing I did was change out the MIM extractor with a non MIM extractor. I have never polished the chamber and has eaten everything from low to high brass. I also changed out the plastic follower to a after market metal follower and higher power spring due to me adding a +3 tube.

My 870 will shoot anything except the Winchester white shotgun shells. Failure to eject....

I bought an 870 from AI&P about 10 years ago, it has performed flawlessly.

Yes, but would you take your shotgun to an English Professor for repair?

Get some better ammo, lube the gun and rack it like a man. It will likely work fine.

If this doesn’t work I’ll buy it for a fair price. I agree the newer 870’s are rough but I haven’t seen one that doesn’t work with lube, decent ammo and proper technique. They smooth out as you use them. I got a pile of them I use for hunting, trap and hd. All new, rough when I got them and now smooth as butter.
