your shooting stance depends on your situation: one stance will not work in all situations.

in general, you should stand like your are about to get into a fight:
feet shoulder width apart,
hips square to target,
strong-side foot back,
shoulders relaxed,
chin in line with lead knee.

same goes for stance with a rifle.
