I practice the John Wick method for a quick shot. I use the modified weaver for target shooting. Prefer John Wick over CAR because I get better recoil management. The two thumbs touching grip of CAR and using the left eye is just odd.

Different grips/stances for different types of shooting...

Where the problem usually happens is when people don't know which grip/stance is good for what application and then use suboptimal combination just because it's what they know or what feels comfortable.

Isosceles is the fastest and optimal stance for virtually all shooting that allows free style (both hands), including versions of bullseye that do not require one-handed shooting. In fact, I am not aware of any stance that can beat it in any aspect. This has been not just observed, but measured by countless professional shooters.

The rest of techniques can only find a place in shooting when there are additional constraints, such as one-handed shooting, close quarter or contact shooting, shooting around barriers and alike. Even then there is enough nonsense going around about "exposure around cover" which is provably wrong, that I would take a lot of that advice with a grain of salt.

If you shoot CAR as anything but a close quarter drill you're, unfortunately, shooting from a suboptimal position where you lose both accuracy and speed. Even at close quarters, there are things such as "thumb pectoral index shooting" that would be a more natural stance/skill for creating separation until proper shots can be taken.

Internet is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to shooting education...

              I don't use a stance.

I practice while running as fast as I can and shooting over my shoulder ;-)

I didn't know it had a name, we practiced a version of that as part of a weapon retention / close contact shoot training evolution.
No chance of using sights, but at a contact threat, you are still pointing directly at center mass

                    OP

For competition- one way is best

For fighting - no stance is best

CAR seems dumb until you are in your car

Visualize sitting in the drivers seat with window down

You need to draw and shoot a target to the rear of the vehicle. Say 10 feet behind the rear bumper in line with the left edge of the vehicle.

                    Right hand dominant firing grip
                    Left eye on sights
Gun is close to the face

                    Now play passenger
                    Window down
Threat is to the rear of car- just past rear wheel well

                    Left hand dominant grip
                    Right eye aiming

                    Gun is still near face

Those that shoot competition do it one way and are fast / smooth.

For folks that might need self defense, learn as much as you can

Flat on your back, Bend knees, raise head and shoot between legs - that’s isosceles, not weaver.

Circle a car while firing into drivers area... where are your feet? How are you moving?

                    Do a figure 8 drill

Target down range. Set up 2 cones in line with the target

Walk and shoot around the cones back and forward

Walking a figure 8 around the cones

Change the drill to two cones 6-10 feet apart at the same distance from the target (not inline). Walk the figure 8 and shoot
                    Shoot strong hand
                    Shoot support hand

Don’t do anything without professional training so you don’t kill yourself and others

Airsoft in the house and yard can help a lot.

It’s not live fire but you can film yourself and try drills at home.

Live fire from a car... airsoft is way easier

Watch some car videos on u tube

Learning to shoot right hand dominant With left eye
and left hand Dominant with right eye seems strange

But try the shooting from the drivers seat of your auto
Even sitting at your desk. Point at an imaginary target that would be by the drivers rear wheel well

It’s right hand dominant and aiming with left eye.

Try it sometime. It doesn't. As long as you don't have limp wrist, you should be fine.
I am able to shoot my 1911 45 and cz compact 9mm full magazine rapid shot (tried during the fathers day event at on-target when they allowed rapid shots) about 2inches from my face without worry.

Quite an adrenaline rush as well in my opinion.

Yea. My accuracy is horrid in the car stance so far in practice at range but still practicing as it feels a bit more comfortable.
I enjoy shooting weaver as well, but was very uncomfortable with isosceles.

Absolutely agree. I mix in strong hand and week hand only practice every session.

I took an auto defensive shooting course and we had to shoot from all kinds of compromised positions from inside the vehicle. It was very interesting and reinforced my commitment to practicing strong hand/weak hand only during my shooting sessions.

Also try drawing your carry weapon with your weak hand only. One handed reloads, and one handed slide manipulation.
