I probably have more .30 Carbine ammo on hand than anything else just from hoarding the brass and handloading it. A mix of FMJ, SP and half jacket Speer Plinkers. I also bought it in bulk form the CMP a few years ago.

Not that I am short of .223/5.56 or 9mm.....

A handgun is only a means to get to your long gun.
You should find a long gun that you are comfortable with and accurate.
Practice and practice some more.

Be able to use both a handgun and long gun comfortably is the most important aspect.

I do like the Ruger PCC idea. You'll have a carbine and handgun that use the same mags.

I actually have this combo, my very first hangun and rifle purchases- A Ruger P89 (w/ 15 rd mags ) and a year later, an original PC-9 carbine, which I like much better than the takedown model. Still have them but would much rather have a long gun that shoots rifle cartridges than hand gun ones for SHTF.

My SHTF gun is the SCAR 16. If I can bring along a sidearm, it would be a Glock 17. For SHTF I want a gun that's low maintenance and has a high ammo capacity.
