marlinowners.com has a policy like that. 30 days and 30 posts, if I recall, before you can even participate in the marketplace as a buyer or seller.

That's a plan. But it would encourage crap posts just to reach the number. I also think that the greater the number of people buying and selling guns the better. So requiring membership for everyone would decrease what is likely the largest second hand firearms marketplace in CA.

Not saying this is necessarily a perfect solution, but what about "verified" accounts. Meaning you use a credit card that charges $1 (or whatever is fair to run the service) to verify that you are who you say you are. No credit card info is saved, it's just a one time charge that gives you the ability to post in the marketplace and have an itrader rating. They have access to the marketplace and maybe an extra forum. CG supporters get top placement for their marketplace ads. As a supporter, if your membership lapses, you retain your "verified" status.

Getting verified will weed out scammers and help out CG with smaller contributions, while full contributors get preferential placement of their ads. i.e. Their posts essentially remain "sticky" and the rest of the "verified" members have to bump their ads as usual to the top of the bottom of the member ads.

I know this would involve a lot of work, but with extra member benefits, it might bring in more money to CG overall.

You might not know this, but we do have a contributor classifieds section and guess what? No one uses it! You guys are trying to propose a solution for a non-existent problem.

Yeah, but giving priority to members in the main marketplace would give contributors a nice benefit rather than just a contributor classified section.

Its doesn't seem to bother management. That's really all that matters.

I had some clown PM me a few weeks ago because I post something about Phillip's have bullets in stock. Said It was "Incredibly Stupid" because the line to get in will be long.

Come to find out that the DB has primers listed on the Marketplace for $125.00 per 1K.
