For me there was no response. I just received the paperwork confirming it was done a few months later from submitting it.

The requirement is to file the report. You paid by credit card. The receipt is your response...report filed.

You can view transaction status on CFARS.

        Paper work will follow.

Question for someone who has never done it. Was it complicated to navigate though CFARS? And set up an account?

Not really. Just a receipt via email when you pay. Pretty straightforward.

CA DOJ BOF will mail an acknowledgement letter within 4-64 weeks of cashing in the payment.
                  ^Average is 4 months.

When I applied for my COE from CFARS, the application lacked some directions that would have prevented the application from bouncing back as "incomplete". There was a section that asks for proof of identity. You can select California DL, but then it doesn't say you need to upload a copy of your DL. It's not horribly difficult to find, but you have to read VERY carefully.

                      1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
                      2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
                      3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
                      4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).

Thank you! This really helps as well.

You can also use CFARS as a guest (no account required) and file forms, you just cannot track the status later if you do it that way.

It took FOUR months, but the Intrafamilial Transfer is done. CA DOJ sent me a letter of approval.

No, the transfer was done at the time the gun(s) changed hands.

The form, whether filed on paper or through CFARS, documents an event that has already occurred.. Your legal obligation is to file the form - no acknowledgement is required to make the transfer complete.

                              Penal Code 27875
                              27875.

                              (a) Section 27545 does not apply to the transfer of a firearm by gift, bequest, intestate succession, or other means from one individual to another, if all of the following requirements are met:

                              (1) The transfer is infrequent, as defined in Section 16730.

                              (2) The transfer is between members of the same immediate family.

                              (3) Within 30 days of taking possession of the firearm, the person to whom it is transferred shall submit a report to the Department of Justice, in a manner prescribed by the department, that includes information concerning the individual taking possession of the firearm, how title was obtained and from whom, and a description of the firearm in question. The reports that individuals complete pursuant to this subdivision shall be made available to them in a format prescribed by the department.
