I also take exception to what kcheung2 said. Even the most casual gun
enthusiast can tell a .22 from a centerfire gun when it is shot. It also is not difficult see see that someone is firing more than 10 rounds at a time,
dropping their mag, inserting a new one and continue blasting away.
That said,
I also have been told that mag capacities are not the range's concern.I am not an attorney, but sure, go ahead.

I don't see 50BMG's on the line much anymore? Always enjoyed the concussion out of their muzzle brakes.
No cameras at my club range - thank God. Someone might think my fake can was real.Comment

Got to fire a 500 SW today. Felt like what I imagine a bmg would feel like. I let the other guy shoot my Christensen .338 LM. Someone picked up a 416 barrett case at the range, lucky.Comment

I get asked questions like this all the time. Speaking for most RSO’s I can say we don’t care, just follow our range rules and we won’t have an issue with you. Are there off duty LEO’s shooting at the range? YES! They generally don’t care either as they are off duty. Just don’t do something stupid and draw unwanted attention to your self. Does the DOJ stop by? They could, but I’m not aware of them ever being there and if they have been they didn’t announce it. We enforce the range rules so there is no call for the DOJ to visit unless someone called them to complain.I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

But how about when it's not shot? Often guns are observed when the range is cold & everyone is standing around behind the yellow line waiting for that last straggler to change their target. Just looking at it from a distance, without being able to hear a gun's report, it can indeed be difficult to tell if it's centerfire or not. And even when it's shot it can still be difficult. I have a MP5-type clone in .22 with a fake can, and a few people have asked me if it was a suppressed 9mm because "it was so quiet, it sounded just like a .22!" lol.I also take exception to what kcheung2 said. I also don't pay attention to other people's shooting count. But assuming a hypothetical Karen did care about someone's potential 30rd mag, that person would have to be next to the shooter to visually observe it amidst the din of all the other shooters. With a strictly enforced 1 shot/second rule & a line of shooters, there's no way to accurately determine only by sound if those 30 shots in not-rapid succession came from just 1 guy or 5.---------------------

I only watch out for safety issue. muzzle safety, trigger fingers, firearm placement etc.....anything outside of that, i dont care.Comment

In CA's perfect would, when the gun laws change, they would confiscate or deem illegal those new 'things' that are no longer allowed. Since the Constitution doesn't allow this without compensation (also see the CA SKS sporter issue from the late 90s):
We get an interesting stratification of grandfathering 'things' in CA gun ownership, basically depending on how old you are. Of course there are also people that just don't give a damn, or in the case of Freedom Week, the state has the burden of proof.
Even experienced CA gun owners (and Calgunners) cannot determine at a glance if a given configuration is legal. When I got my dedicated AR22 rifle config together, there was a gentleman shooting pistol in the bay right next to me, and gave me some side long looks. After a few looks, I heard him through my electronic ear pro, "It's a rimfire," and he chuckled, and after that there were no more side long looks.
My wife is an attorney, licensed to practice in the state of CA, for everything that is not patent related (patent lawyers have a different bar exam). She's as sharp as they come, did some time clerking during her law school summers for the federal appellate court. I've tried to explain CA gun laws to her, and she doesn't get it.
It's just that weird.Comment

Was at an outdoor range and guys next to me set up with new ARs, one mag locked and one featureless. Featureless also had some old (weathered) GI mags. At one point the maglocked guy put in a full 30rd and was shooting it, I didn't say anything cause, MYOB. When another friend was clarifying the law about +10 mags I didn't say anything cause, MYOB. When they asked me about it I concurred the correct answer. Hope they erased the incriminating video evidence but I forgot to mention that to them.Last edited by tabascoz28; 08-12-2020, 5:49 AM.Comment

I gues alpha romeo never heard of 50 dtc. Go to angeles sometimes down at far left where the big boys play. (LOL) If at indoor libtard ranges in the bay area a big gun is a 45 with horrendous scary boom.Comment

There are also SOT FFLs who will show up with real toys - suppressors and what not. They aren't wearing badges or special clothes. If you think you got side looks for your 30rd mag, watch what happens when a can shows up on the line...Comment

Yes the laws are enforced. Grant it, you will get people at the range from time to time using an illegally configured firearm either because they simply dont care or having paid enough attention and dont know. You have to stay up to date on firearms laws in California. They are constantly changing. If you dont you could end up in a lot of hot water.I've been to a couple of public outdoor ranges recently. I've noticed some shooters are using forward grips, 20 or 30 round magazines, and regular pistol grips. I'm just curious if the law regarding banned items is enforced.

Now someone at the range could have had 30 round magazines that they purchased during freedom week. If that was the case those magazines are perfectly legal to use. No you can not buy or own magazines beyond 10 rounds unless they were purchased during that one week where it was actually legal. Magazines beyond 10 rounds legally owned by someone else cant even be transfered or loaned to you.
Also if you use a mag lock you can have the standard features of an AR style rifle. Forward vertical grip, pistol grip, flash hider, adjustable stock. If you do not use a mag log the only option you have is to go featureless. Fin grip, muzzle brake or nothing at all, no vertical forward grips but angled forward grips and stops are fine, and the stock must be pinned in place.Comment

Shouldn't be a concern of yours, those shooters are grown men, they want to shower with Bubba in the pen than so be it, just shoot, be safe and cleanup for the next guy after you.
Don't waste your time explaining, questioning the legality of their firearms, accessories, to them also, mind your own business, some guys just don't want to be bothered, hen pecked by a Karen , rebelling against the laws, or plain just don't give a f*ck.
Being adult about this, personally , and more than likely those shooters also, would tell you to F*ck off.Comment
