    NFA requirments

To get an NFA weapon. I am wondering what the requirments are? I was reading somewhere you gotta be us resident blah blah, but they said you have to clear a background check of never being convicted of a crime. I am wondering what crime exactly, or do they mean any crime. I was caught breaking curfew as a minor, would that shut me out of an NFA weapon?

You just have to clear the exact same background check that you do everytime you buy a regular firearm from an FFL. If you have bought a firearm from an FFL and passed the NICS then you won't have any problem passing the background check for an NFA firearm. If you are acquiring the NFA item as an individual then you will also need your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer to sign off on your paperwork.

Not true! You can get some NFA firearms in Ca., even without CLEO sign off! Just use the search function here. You will need to set up a NFA trust first. Oaklander can help you do this for a fee. Then, when you are GTG, you can either convert a C&R longgun to a SBR or SBS or, you can buy one. You will be limited to C&R SBS and SBR or AOWs. None of which can be considered AWs in this state. It has been and is being done here LEGALLY!

In CA, you can get an AOW, C&R SBR and C&R SBS.
All the other NFA firearms (DD, MG, non-C&R SBR and non-C&R SBS) require a Dangerous Weapons permit/license.
The Dangerous Weapons permit/license is near impossible to get.

Read this thread about owning an AOW/SBR/SBS in CA.

Forgot about those - not what I immediately think of when NFA is mentioned, but it counts. All I really care about are suppressors and non C&R SBR's and AOW's.
