have read a few posts from couple years ago so i thot i can get more recent info...as a cali resident, can i go into nv or az buy ammo and bring back to cali? illegal? infraction if caught? what ive read from 2017 and 2019 was yes to those.

california prop 63 means you can't bring it back with you. if you buy out of state you are supposed to have it sent to an FFL here who can run the background check.

that said, california law does not apply outside california, so nothing to stop dealers in neighboring states from selling to you in person, you just can't legally bring it back with you.

If you have a C&R FFL and a CA COE you can import ammo from out of state. This includes shopping at select wesites who will ship it to the address listed on the FFL.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

If you don’t have FFL, buy 1000 rd cases and transfer then a low cost FFL

CA PEN 30314 is still in force:
30314. (a) Commencing January 1, 2018, a resident of this state shall not bring or transport into this state any ammunition that he or she purchased or otherwise obtained from outside of this state unless he or she first has that ammunition delivered to a licensed ammunition vendor for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 30312.

            (b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any of the following:(5) A person who is licensed as a collector of firearms pursuant to Chapter 44 (commencing with Section 921) of Title 18 of the United States Code and the regulations issued pursuant thereto, whose licensed premises are within this state, and who has a current certificate of eligibility issued by the Department of Justice pursuant to Section 26710.

            (6) A person who acquired the ammunition from a spouse, registered domestic partner, or immediate family member as defined in Section 16720.

            (c) A violation of this section is an infraction for any first time offense, and either an infraction or a misdemeanor for any subsequent offense.
The past discussions about enforcement, proof the ammo didn't come from out-of-state, and just what that business about spouse/family member actually means (You and family member drive to Reno; they buy ammo...you buy ammo. Each gives the other ammo, then drive back) are current.

As noted, 1st offense gets you a ticket; second may escalate.

Does the above allow for immediate family member who lives in NV gift/give to other immediate family member who is a Cali resident the ammo while visiting in NV, then bringing it back to Cali?

i would never break the law but for the sake of discussion, ive read the AG stops is where one could get checked. Would the likelihood of being checked occur coming into cali from nevada or in from az?

You have the same probability of being stopped for an ammo check at either station. That probability approaches zero.

It increases if you are towing a trailer with a pallet of ammo.
