My son passed the Hunter Safety course with a score of 98 at age 9, and was hunting right afterwards for rabbits and ground squirrels, as well as quail...still under close supervision. At 11, he took a javelina in New Mexico.

He is now 22 and an avid shooter/hunter.

OMG ... it is a semi-auto rifle for crying out loud! --- would it be illegal for your 7 year old to fire a Ruger Mini 14 under your fatherly supervision teaching your son the basics of firearm safety...!

        THINK people ...! - OMG

since i won't go blm and nearest range is livermore rod and gun... they put age policies actually. starting at 8 yrs old, 22LR and i think they base it on rifle vs. pistol.

also the parent has to be there to do the waiver. maybe not all ranges do this but i saw it first hand last week at the trap range where big bro wanted to take little bro to try trap. parents have to be the one handling the waiver and it's gtg after if little bro wants to go with big bro. looks like someone karen mom made a stink a few yrs ago that grandpa took grandson to the range w/o mom knowing.

if you have your own land and can shoot.... (this on top of Quiet's info above)

Three is still a bit young; a helpful path would be teaching her to follow basic directions in everyday life skills. Be patient, as some angels catch on at different times as others. Also, their attention spans are short, so keep that in mind.
One thing I did when mine were toddlers, was to place a rifle up on the dining room wall (unloaded, single rifle rack), so it was in view much like a picture or other form of decoration. Children remember visual things, and this helped to normalize the presence of weapons. Now we have hunting spears, that they own.
Best wishes for your daughter; you and she will get there together!

Thank you! We just hit the 4 month mark of no seizures so we are finally making progress towards goals. Thats my main concern if she will ever have the cognitive ability to understand whats going on, but at the very least I could always help her shoot later on with my direct help and I'm excited for that

So we are at the the point of asking "is it legal to bond with my son?" in California?

Buy/build him an AR-22. He will be the envy of his friends.

My daughter is 5 and my son is 3. They have their own bb guns that they shoot out back and at grandmas. When we go out to the forest, they get to shoot their 10/22 and my other rifles too.

My daughter says 223 isn’t powerful enough for her and wants to try a 308 next time. Not sure if I’ll let her or not. She’s growing up too fast.

My youngest won the shotgun comp at 9 for that age group in 20 GA.

My opinion is that it really depends on the parents, the kid and about two thousand other intangibles. Really, it is an adult decision about the circumstances.

                            Good luck OP...

Haha! That kid is awesome!! I just watched a few minutes of her going to town with a Henry lever gun. She cycled the action like a champ and was very accurate .
