Maybe we should come up with a roster of "safe" remarks, and we can only use those remarks, just to avoid any snarkiness or misinterpretation?

I think I get it, OP. It comes down to mutual respect. But, this is a forum. Folks can post, and folks can remark on those posts. What you have described comes with the territory. At the end of the day I think people get what they need from CG, and don't walk away empty handed. I do believe there should be a reasonable expectation that members (especially new ones) utilize the forum search tool, AND read the owner's manual for their newly acquired firearm, before posting a question.

It has nothing to do with being correct. There's nothing novel about what I'm saying. Its just common sense, you don't attract people with insults, elitism, and alienation.

If you think I'm wrong, just look around. Look at how outnumbered 2A supporters are in every major city across the country. Look around at the threads here... notice how many of the same user names you see every day, across the myriad of threads. CA population is increasing exponentially. Meanwhile, new members here are few and far between.

Neither of them have any intention of ever going to the range, their first time firing the gun will be in a HD situation. They will keep voting anti-gun.
My own son-in-law is hard core democrat and liberal, he owns a gun but would be more than willing to give it up if the govt. told him to, and he only goes to the range when I provide the ammo, so that make 3 gun owners I know that vote exclusively democrat, luckily I raised my daughter right so she at least negates my son-in-law's vote.
We are screwed in this state, only thing we can do is slow it down, we will never stop it.
My brother is also a leftist. He's been taught to be by our educational institutions (most of which are no longer about education at all). My brother says things that are asinine and infuriating, and demonstrate his lack of appreciation for the very freedoms that have been provided to him.

I do my best to ask him questions.. questions that allow him to contradict previous statements and thoughts. Occasionally he connects the dots and has a moment of clarity.

Leftist strategy is to use force. To pressure you into compliance. No logic, no tolerance, no attempt to understand the other side. Many people here operate in exactly the same manner, yet profess to stand against the approach (I'm no exception). But we can't succumb to leftist tactics. We have emphasize logic and lead by example. We need to show new members that their perception of us is wrong. Otherwise we continue to fuel their fire.

We're losing our war faster than ever before. If we're serious about stopping the bleeding, we can't just sit back and complain. And we can't deter new members.

I appreciate your comments and do have some understanding. However, the fact you would even feel the need to make that statement about 'deadly weapons' speaks volumes.

We here are all well aware of the potential deadliness of our firearms. I learned that before I was 5 years old, well over 50 years ago.

Back then, people didn't 'need to be invited' to be pro-2A. It was simply a way of life.

Your manner and your comments lead me to believe you don't understand this. I am not trying to be snarky. Just my observation.

I think that you're not understanding me here. I hope that you're correct that it actually matters, in that Democrats will be capable of changing their political stripes if they are shown that they should. I doubt it though, as for most it seems that politics is like religion.

I'm not sure how old you are or how long you've been following these sorts of things, but I assure you that 2A supporters aren't outnumbered in major metropolitan areas because we're mean to people. It's a direct consequence of the rise of anti-American Leftism.

What do liberals look like? Just curious. There seems to be a lot of lumping people together. People are allowed to change their views. If you ever want the 2a legislation in CA to change you must welcome these new gun owners into the fold. By being elitist you put a bad taste in their mouths. So what do you expect from them? There are people here who I will not name who have more posts telling people to search than they have posts of anything substantive. Human beings evolve (well most do) you never know who may change their view of guns and the irrational limitations put on citizens in CA. I speak from experience!!

Most of the threads that are about guns and gun-related questions get answered quickly. Sure there are a few blowhards who will "contribute" that the person should use the search button, but mostly members will simply answer the questions. Answering all sorts of questions is how education and helping others works, whether it's during shooting class or here on the forum.

Where it gets tricky is when a new member starts veering off into non-gun related areas, politics, opinions on topics unrelated to 2A and alike. Those who are used to their social media echo-chambers will get smacked here if they try to force their opinion, or if they get butt-hurt if people disagree with their other views.

I'd say it's about right on both counts - help as much as we can with gun-related questions, don't cave in to the anti-gun gun owners just to appease someone.

I once googled how to play Cricket, after reading the rules several times I was still confused because they used terms that were foreign to me.I read them several times to see if I could make sense of it.
If I had had a real interest in the game and googled a cricket forum and been treated the way some of you treat newbies. I'm sure I would have never played cricket and thought cricket people were ef in crazy.
I think that kind of behavior is just ego boosting and a lost opportunity to change the minds of those that are open to learning the truth

Have you ever read the rules of cricket. lol

This is the issue we have often - gun rights are civil rights because second amendment is in the bill of rights and is part of the core individual rights that our society recognizes. I don't have to cater to someone just to get them to support civil rights. It's the opposite. My civil rights should be protected from others' "bad taste in their mouth." I should be able to be myself AND have my civil rights.

So, I expect from them to support ALL civil rights if they want to claim to be pro-civil rights or liberal in any meaning of the word. You wouldn't tell a black person to be nice to white people if they want white people to support them, right? The same goes for gun rights...

Nothing wrong with either playing or not playing cricket. Plenty wrong with attacking civil rights of others because you don't like people who exercise those rights.

I understand what you are saying. However, thats not based in reality. The reality is that legislators make the laws. The people vote for legislators. The people vote for referendums that become laws. As for Black people historically "being nice" to white people, thats a discussion that can't be had on here. Its too involved. Suffice to say that ALL civil rights have never be respected in American.

The decision is yours, mass amounts of new gun owners are seeing guns as a way to protect themselves in spite of local law enforcement. Sad that it took so much to make that change. I see it as an opportunity to welcome people in. You don't have to. It may or may not be a wasted opportunity.

I am grateful that you are able to have an intelligent conversation about it even if we dont see everything the same!!

I agree, what discourages me is people who jump on a newbie who lacks enough gun knowledge to ask a clear question and declares them a troll instead of trying to clarify the question and provide a answer.

I guess it depends upon what you mean by that not being based in reality. His statement is about as rational as it gets regarding that topic. You are not allowed to legitimately vote away someone else basic human rights. If you're referring to the practical nature of such a notion, then at this time you are correct. We have a body politic that has a massive ignorant section regarding natural law and right and wrong (including most gun owners), politicians who abhor true freedoms for the citizens, and a judiciary that will at best turn a blind eye toward the right to self-defense.

That sounds great but then you have OP who says...

Here is the thread that got OP so riled up enough to create this post.

I don't think any of those replies were "jumping on a newbie". Perhaps a bit glib, but if OP gets offended with that level then perhaps the internet is not for him.

I see it as an opportunity too... That's not a problem. The problem is when the person brings in the group-think of their social echo-chamber and expects to get a pass here.

We get enough people who want to vote for gun control politicians because of some deeply held belief or other, but at the same time want to get absolved of the responsibility for helping elect that politician when the politician votes for gun control. A lot of left-leaning gun owners hate with passion when they don't get away with such behavior and are labeled anti-civil rights. Yet, it's easy to prove - you vote for a politician who attacks civil rights, you are not only responsible for attacking civil rights, but you're also culpable for gun laws in CA. Hardly a friend of 2A.

Another good one is when people come here and expect everyone to make them comfortable by agreeing with their various political points of view or else they won't support the civil right of armed self defense. They are literally convinced that they are these very good people who by virtue of being really good people cannot do wrong even if they end up being against civil rights. And anyone who would point their anti-civil rights behavior is a bad person because "how dare they..."
