Ok, my bad if I took it the wrong way. I saw at people saying they carry Chopsticks in their EDC bag as a sign of mocking the guy. My mistake, I apologize...

When I post "stills" I use a computer and manually shrink them 80 percent. These new fangled phones take great pictures, sometimes you don't need all thousand words. They also could take up your alotted forum space. Not criticizing.

No worries, lads. I didn’t even think anyone was making fun of me. I guess sometimes there are benefits to being oblivious.

But seriously, chopsticks are my most frequently used tools. You can use it to work on electrical circuits that will blow you up or blow up delicate circuits. You can use it for poking at things that might become damaged by metallic tools. You can use your knife to shape the tip into any shape desired.

Just this morning I was using a chopstick to clean a pistol. Use it to poke a patch into nooks and crannies. Use it to clean the rails. After the gun is clean, use a chopstick to apply a little grease into the bottom of the rails.

Maybe you can buy something similar in that cute little “kit” that you’d see on the shelf at Big 5, but it’s hard to imagine finding an “off the rack” tool that is as versatile as something you made yourself.

Another benefit of chopsticks is that they’re free. Just invite your friends out to dinner at a Chinese place. Just make sure one of them is a gaigin who eats with a fork.

Thanks for the tip. I've been shooting and cleaning guns for 60 yrs. My Gun cleaning box is homemade. By me a Cabinet Maker. As well as the regular assorted rods, jags, brushes, grease, lubes, and fluids, etc. It has a pill bottle of round wood toothpicks, assorted ice cream sticks, and tongue depressors.

To be added to above will be a few chop stix.

                Never too old to learn.

OP, did you get the rod back into place?

                  Neat!
Just last week I retired the homemade box my wife made about 35 years ago. It was made for another purpose, but she made it and I liked it. But last week she came home with something else and insisted we give it a try. She's right, the old box wasn't well-suited for gun cleaning stuff. I'll have to ask her to buy some fudgesicles so I can add the sticks to my arsenal.

The last report was that the OP got his gun working. I don't know what method he used to get the guide rod straightened out. But it's not a rare thing that happens on plenty of different guns.

Chopsticks are good, so are bamboo skewers for Shish Kabab. Pointed at one end and flat on the other. And just about.22 caliber.

Hi. There was a thread about this exact problem. This was the best answer it seems: " The rod is not seated correctly against the barrel. Mine was not pointing straight ahead, it was pointing off to the side. I grabbed the rod and with a pulling and twisting motion, popped it back into place. If you can't do it with your fingers, put some masking tape on the jaws of a pair of pliers, and use those to do it....carefully. Not too hard to do."

I always save extra disposable chop sticks for my gun cleaning supplies

you wont ever scratch or mess up anything if you use wooden sticks

dont ever use a pocket knife to pry like Hickock45 uses, you will definitely nick or scratch something

                              OP,
I had the same issue on my SW a few times and cleared it. Rack it up hard (It's not going to be easy, will require substantial force) and or tap on the sticking out recoil rod. I believe, it's warranty case, I am going to contact S&W next time I have it.
