    Looking for somewhere to shoot

    Greetings Calgunners,

    I'm in San Diego.

Without driving up to 29 Palms... Does anybody know anywhere I can go be alone and stretch my rifles out to at least 300 yds?

    Thanks for any ideas.

Went there last week and joined. Two reasons. They have a 300 yard range and it's all outdoor, but covered so you're in the shade. I prefer outdoors because you get fresh air, less sound and there are too many new gun owners at the indoor ranges. The volunteers/staff were very friendly and helpful.
Can anyone join? I thought a current member had to vouch or something, that is why I never even went there to look. I'd love to join SB Rod n Gun!

Pala doesn't need a membership, they are open to the public but have matches on weekends. So check their web calendar before driving there. Shoot out to 875 yard and dedicated steel pistol/shotgun range

+1 for Pala. I try and shoot there weekly.

8am they're usually pretty full for the no-wind session but generally I've been able to hop on right at 10 without issues. If you get there at 8, they will want to free up your lane by 10 so plan on 2 hours.

The range generally goes cold on the hour for 15 mins for brass cleanup and target swap outs, then hot from :15-:00 again so plan for this on when you wanna get there if you plan on placing targets at 50/100/200.

As a general rule, how HARD is it to find some secluded public land, and shoot on it in CA?

Growing up in the rural (at THAT time) piedmont of NC, and going to college down in the even MORE rural sw mountains, "shootin' spots" was PLENTIFUL, & no one EVER hassled you about it.

I realize CA is a zillion times more populated... but it's also a LOT bigger. Is it possible still, in the hinterboonies, to pull over to the side of the road, walk 5 minutes into the woods, and start a-blastin'? Or...???

I think it's less a matter of difficulty as it is a matter of inconvenience.

There's a lot of BLM land available for shooting if you're willing to invest the time in:

                        Finding it

Driving 1 ~ 3 hrs each way depending on where you live

Dealing with traffic delays (weekend traffic on I-15 can be bad)

Learn to prepare/adjust for extreme temperatures and high winds.

I've been doing it for decades.

the 300 yard rifle range is only using every other shooting spot so 15 available to use. as long as more than 6 ft away no mask required if you go up to other people mask required. pistol ranges are only one person per bench or one same household group

Also, how do I do the blue comment link boxes? That seems more practical than my method.
