I don't live in an apartment - not sure how you conjured that conclusion but I don't think the walls in my house or my neighbors' can be much thicker or sturdier than apartment walls. Another room can be my wife or my child, a guest or unlikely but possibly a next door neighbor. In a HD situation, I doubt an intruder will let me call dibbs on confronting at the front door. Would be nice, but highly unlikely. I'm fine with my 9mm and .45 at home, I just won't use FMJ. Thanks for the .22lr suggestion though - very penetrating but not very effective at stopping power. I just use it for range practice.



I've heard but don't have first-hand knowledge of any case in specific. But I definitely don't want to be the guinea pig in my neighborhood.

All ammo is tested for reliable feeding. I stagger fmj and jhp.

When you gotta punch through a leather jacket, etc, fmj generally works better the jhp.

I use JHP rounds to try minimizing over penetration. I think the odds of accidental overpenetration and hitting someone in my home or neighboring home is extremely slim. But I'd be heartbroken if I shot my loved one or my dog or something on accident.

I had never heard of having the 1st round being FMJ and the rest JHP. My current practice is to shoot 1 Mag of JHP to every 10 mags of FMJ. There is no rhyme or reason to why I do it that way, I just do.

Just get yourself a simple pump shotgun loaded with bird shot for the first two rounds and then 00 buckshot for the last two rounds. You will never regret it.

This makes no sense. I think you should ignore whatever this person has to say. Test your gun with a number of HD rounds, which should be HP, and choose one that works well. They all probably will be good enough for any modern pistol design, but guns can vary a bit.

I would never, ever keep FMJ rounds in a HD weapon. If you ever found yourself in need of firing it, you don't want the consciousness of guilt - or the legal implications of maiming/killing someone in another room with the charge of knowing or that you should have known the over-penetrating propensities of a FMJ round.

Maybe it's because I haven't lived in an apartment in 21 years - or maybe it's just Calguns - but I can't say as I have EVER... worried about the legal ramifications, of drywall.

No one here seems to be able to remember any incident where over penetration of a wall or door was an issue. That puts it in the class of internet legend, aka bullchit.
