Off Roster Interstate Intrafamilial Transfer

So I've heard both FFL to FFL ship and transferer can drive the firearm over are both legal and both HAVE been done. Is that correct or is only one, true?

It is an off roster handgun, father to daughter, Idaho to California.

Depends on the receiving FFL.

Some want it to be shipped from another FFL, others will accept it as long you (not your daughter) drive it in.

Edit:
Make sure the CA FFL understands the gift procedure before moving the gun.
The gun has to be a gift from you to her, she cannot pay for it.

I'm asking for my Brother (Idaho) to gift to his daughter (SF East Bay)

The gun nerds at my job tell me it's ok to do either one, I thought they can only FFL(ID) to FFL(CA)

My brother thinks it can't be don't AT ALL because California gun laws are so strict.

ug imports is up in bay area. The daughter cannot receive firearm. must go thru ffl in ca. up to receiving ffl if direct to ffl from father is ok.

Thanks everyone, now I have to find an FFL that will allow him to bring it to them instead of shipping it. Right now it seems like FFLs in the bay area are doing trades, I'm 6/6 on the businesses saying no. The last one mentions to try back next week when DOJ gives them a go? figures...

Talk to RMB Enterprises or UG Imports. If this is father to daughter and daughter has a different last name, you might prepare marriage license, birth certs etc. You need to convince the FFL this is legit, because plenty of people try to game the system.

Having a well established relationship with the FFL is what you really need. Barring that, be polite, flexible, and ready to provide all documents they ask for, with no ruffled feathers. They can ask you for anything they want, they do not have to do these transfers if they don't want to. They will not until they are comfortable with it.
