So I was out running errands yesterday afternoon (have to get stuff done before the curfew begins nightly) and stopped by my local gun shop. Was a bit caught off guard by how full the parking lot was as things had calmed down since the C-19 craziness/rush to buy.
For whatever reason, I just wasn't thinking or connecting the "dots" regarding all the recent protesting/looting activity. Parked my car and noticed the line to get into the LGS was wrapped around the corner shop next to the LGS. My first thought was WTF?
Then it hit me...all the folks who have stood by telling everyone they don't need a firearm because that's what the police are there for (and even these folks in line kept the same perspective for the first ~10 weeks of the C-19 shelter in place mandate and felt a firearm was unnecessary, otherwise they wouldn't be in line NOW) have suddenly realized the police CAN'T be there for them as they are spread too thin when whatever degree of civil decency we HAD is suddenly gone and the police have their hands more than full dealing with the violence and looting so they are unable to respond to your call for help.
Now all of a sudden, having a firearm makes sense and is needed (again, according to the line of people waiting in the 105 degree sun). Personal defense for you and your home/family is just that, personal. To expect the police to be able to protect you is wishful thinking at best IMO and that level of wishfulness would only exist when times are completely normal. Times are not at all normal and based on the length of the line to try and purchase a firearm, these holdouts are realizing that ultimately, their safety is their own responsibility.
