No, unless you do other things to make it legal. You can't just remove the mag lock and use it.

You will have to add the three compliance parts I mentioned above, then you will be legal.

Yes, my apologies. Fixed mag will also work. I have a compmag on one rifle. I find it cumbersome, but then you can keep the rest of the rifle the same.

If you compare the magwell of the MR556 to a milspec AR-15, the lower lip of the MR556 interfers with mags like the Compmag and PMAG Gen2.


You could use a ejection port charger like the Bear Flag Defense BF-10 or Mean Arms Loader along with any maglock device like the FCHook.

The other option is to combine the MR556 upper, buffer, and buffer spring with any mil-spec AR-15 lower and use the Compmag with that. You can keep the MR556 lower in storage.

Any would work, but I'd go with a no logo lower from Anderson or Spike's Tactical just because they're affordable. This is just for CA-compliance so I wouldn't want to invest heavily into the lower.
