I save the leftovers from emptied bottles. Very little actually goes a long way. A 5qt cap at even 1/8th full can lube quite a few of my guns.

I've heard people swear that Mobil one is amazing gun lubricant. I've never tried it, but many people swear on it. It does seem logical..

          That or goat grease.
If you are in town, go to wally mart and buy some Hoppe's gun oil. If you are stranded in the boon docks, anything will do including yak grease, butter, or anything oily. Your gun would smell horrible but that is the least of concern if stranded.

Been using Mobile 1 for years and it works great. But in my own personal tests on corrosion it came out the worst as compared to other oils and specifically gun oils.

Great lube but not good for rust prevention.

Back in the day I was out in the middle of nowwhere shooting full auto. The rifle started to act up and I had no lube with me. So I pulled the dipstick out a couple of times and used it to lube it up and back in business. So yeah, I'd use synth in a second if I didn't have my primary lube around.

If my gun is dry at my private range I’ll literally walk over to my truck and just use the dipstick to oil the gun. Works fine.

It's all poison and cancerous stuff. I prefer Slip 2000, non-toxic, no smell, good from 30 degrees below zero to 1200 degrees.

virtually any modern oil or grease works fine.
the variables are how long it stays where it is needed, and how much dirt it attracts. if you worry a lot about what kind of lube to use, you probably clean your guns so often anything will work fine.

i use penn reel oil and lucas marine grease (which is probably the same as their gun grease at a fraction of the price).
if it is good enough for a salt water reel, it will do fine in my gun, and i have it already.

Your firearms are less technically advanced than modern cars.

Everything will work. Your gun does not get the sort of repetitive rough mechanical interaction that every car goes through (what happens under the hood every 5,000 miles?) Your guns get babied in comparison.

Just clean and relube your guns on occasion and that's it.

If the stuff has that kind of temperature range (and I seriously doubt the upper number) its synthetic.

I just use this which has the added benefit of tungsten disulfide in it:

Just so's ya know, moly is a dry lubricant so liquid moly is moly in some sort of carrier, hopefully synthetic.

And tungsten disulfide is a bit better than molybdenum disulfide. The only reason it's not as popular is that way back when, when the properties of both materials was discovered, molybdenum was much less expensive than tungsten. Now that's not the case but moly is still better known.
