Synethic Motor Oil in a gun?

I've heard it works well... Anyone use it? Pros/Cons?

I use trans fluid, just because I think it’s better than motor oil

Royal purple 30 weight. Mobil 1 works well but smells bad.

1/2 Hoppes gun oil and 1/2 Motorcraft 5W-30 SemiSynBlend for me.

Traditional gun oil that's slick. 1911 slides glide easier, single-action base pins pull smoother. That's my experience, anyway.

Are guns cars? Does your firearm have a gasket?

I have been using it for years. No problems. Love it.

Super Tech blue colored general purpose grease and Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil . Been using that for more than 10 years. Mix the grease with a little bit of oil. Make the slides ride very smooth and the grease stays put in place. It does not run off like oil. They are cheap and very effective compared to gun snake oil . I have guns with 4-5K rounds through them. If you look at the barrel hoods and slides, you would think they only got 100-200 hundreds through them.

Any car oil will work if you need oil
And any grease used in cars will work if you want to use grease.

It is metal on metal. The oil and grease don't know the difference. They will work the same on both.

I have run some 15w40 diesel oil on my g19 before. Works fine, but smells funny after it heats up

Motor oils have detergent in them these days, that ATTRACT dirt, which gums up your rifle faster. Regular gun oil ain't that hard to find guys, & assuming your stupid state doesn't regulate THAT like ammo , shouldn't be that hard to acquire, either.
