Thanks for the site and all of the hard work you and the other mods. do Kestryll!

A free market really does work best. Past posts, iTrader score, language used in the communications: all of these give clues to someone's trustworthiness.

OP may have learned a hard lesson here. My condolences to you tg97 but the silver lining--if you're into that sort of thing--is that it was only $200. I have personally, just since the beginning of this year, been lured by two seperate and very convincing real estate scams where I would have lost thousands of dollars had I given "the benefit of the doubt".

There is more good than bad. Still have to be diligent when dealing with strangers.

NEVER trust a low post wonder, telling you about "SOMEBODY" who has something you're looking for; especially if YOU'RE a lost post wonder, who doesn't know the ins & outs of these scammers yet.

Not all of us honest people want to post on the forums. I've been a member for almost 4 years, and just recently went over the 100 post threshold to get me from Junior Member to Member. That doesn't mean I'm a crook or shady, it just means I don't often feel the need to chime in.

I wouldn't deal with anybody that has less than 10 positive Itrader rating.

Literally every junior member I've ever tried to deal with was some sort of a scam or a lowballer or tried to get over on me in some way. Never again. Only established members.

Very informative post. As a new member who hasn't actually bought or sold anything yet, I'm still new to the whole idea of even buying a gun from a private party, but I definitely want to learn the ins and outs so if the right deal comes my way, I can take advantage.

But there are those of us that are "newbies" but are good peeps, and not looking to scam anyone, and don't want to get scammed either, but we have to be able to build a reputation somehow.

Welcome nice and newbie. I suggest starting local on transactions. Build your reputation. Do face to face deals first. Got to crawl before you can walk. These criminals are using the pandemic to pray on new buyers. GL on your endeavors.

The bad side of technology is SCAMMERS, the State of Washington just admitted to 100's of millions lost to Nigerian Scammers that ripped off their Unemployment System. I got a phone call at home from a robot voice threatening to turnoff my Electrical Power in 30 minutes if I did not call and provide a credit card, it never ends.

Absolutely, I'm located in Orange County, and at this point in my gun hobby infancy stage, I would pretty much only consider doing a transaction face to face at this point. So when I see a cool gun, and see that it's located in San Francisco, I just sigh, and move along.
