    Eldo forest open to shoot?

I'm thinking of heading up past Sly Park (Jenkinson Lake) along Mormon Emigrant Trail to do some shooting in the woods. Has anyone been recently, or knows whether it's open for such activities? I've looked at a website allegedly for the forest but I came away unclear.
    Thanks.

I was, there was a tweaker car there that I don't think like me shooting so I change spots. I heard two people get out shoot a bunch of rounds and they never shot again. The creek at the bend was new for me but so polluted, people suck.

Yes people suck. I leave clean new garbage bags with a note asking people to remove their trash. I take all I can when I leave (100% all my trash plus what ever will fit in my ride of the day).

Compostable food I can understand, there were a few watermelons... But beer cans, shotgun shells, and all kinds of clay in the water. I guess they're non toxic but still.

Here's my experience with the tweaker van. I show up at 6.30 and this painted window, banged up minivan, white is parked to the side of the road. It was not in a shooting area. I turn down and park to a secluded area but I also put all my stuff by a large tree so they couldn't see me. After a few shots from me I hear a car going down the road passing the area. I shoot some more and I hear another car, it sounds like it's moving into a shooting area, many turns and what not. I shoot some more, then all of a sudden I heard 2 hand guns firing quickly. Murica! Then nothing from them for 30 minutes. I got tired of looking behind my back and towards the white van so I walked up the road a bit and see that the white van had moved into a shooting area. Maybe they had a jam, maybe they brought the wrong ammo. Most likely they were woken up by me and didn't appreciate it. I moved to the creek. If I had to do it again I'd probably talk to myself, make up a second voice, have a conversation so it sounds like I'm not alone.

10 days ago this car was up the road and that spot was dirty as heck. Today, everyone was shooting.

I some times shoot and clean up that spot. Steel and paper with pistols. I have not seen that van up there, but will keep my eye for it now. Who knows might just be a brass rat that also sleeps in his van.

That public spot is where everyone goes..why people shoot there when there's some awesome spots where you can stretch the legs of your full size rifle cartridges.

Yep I ran into that van around 2 months ago doing some shooting in the middle of the week on a day off. I was up a little higher than where that van is normally parked. As I am doing some shooting, he passes by and then 10 minutes later he stops a little down the road. Does not get out or anything. Is just watching me. So I continue to shoot minding my own business but carefully watching this dude. Shoot for around 15 minutes and still watching me. So, I decided to shoot the loudest thing I had, 308 PTR with a huge brake. Looked at him and then dumped the 20 round mag. He slowly left. This is why I always have a rifle with a 30 rounder ready to go at all times up there.

Then around 2 weeks ago went up with a cousin. Were shooting much higher up as we have a few spots with a litle more distance. Van rolls by, and I say to my cousin, not this fool again. Same thing again just watching. Around 10 minutes, my cousin said **** this, and started to walk towards him to see what his deal was. Tweaker dude left.

Normally when I go shooting and make a day of it up there I go where cars cannot go off lumber roads/dirt trails, either all by myself or with a friends. No people and less potential problems. But sometimes I only have a limited time and have to go at one of those closer spots. Sooner or later that van driven by that tweaker will break down, and he will be gone. I have never seen him shoot.

I'm glad it wasn't just me being paranoid. I did bring my AR with 2 full mags this time. Both my shooting spots are now tweaker rest spots... Whoever goes there next should get a plate. On my way out i thought I saw rifle and soft case sitting on the boulder. All shooting spots were taken yesterday. You can prob get 100yds if you get creative. I drove so far in I saw a house!

This was about 5 miles in, most people stop and shoot in about a mile or 2. I'd like a house like that one day.

I was at the bend by the creek and was disgusted with all the garbage that was left behind. If you don’t take care of the garbage, this area will get closed due to all the trash left behind. Please pack in and pack out

I have not been up there in a few years, but last time I went I took the time to clean up other peoples garbage. It was the creek by the bend. Shells, wood and carboard, fire extinguisher and even an interior house door.

That area is hit or miss with random forest stuff. Militia training, gang bangers with full auto, tweeks dancing around a fire on a sunday at 6 am, etc. It is not a spot I frequent anymore, too bad it used to be pretty decent.

The highlight of going up there is stopping off at apple hill for a pie run on the way home.

Thanks for all the updates. I haven't been in a long while. Last time I was there some weird dude in a beater pick-up was milling about. As I was getting ready to leave I saw two Forest Ranger trucks parked with the Rangers discussing something. Rolling on down the road I'm passed by the beater, followed quickly by the Rangers who lit him up as they went past me. No idea what that was about.
By the way, where is the "bend" and the creek? Is it past where the motorcyclists' memorial is?

Bend is just like .25 miles in. Not sure where the memorial is. I always thought it was a rally point, parking for hiking and biking.
