        They took all my info and location. Asked me more questions about Corona Virus than the Gun. The virus questions where if I had any kind of contact or symptoms
        Officer showed up, took pictures, pulled loaded mag out, nothing in chamber, bagged it and took more info from me down.
        Funny thing is was never asked if I was caring a gun.

        I did ask if I get Dibs if no owner found and the officer just laughed!
        IMHO, you made the correct choice. Maybe you are instrumental in helping solving a crime. Maybe you were instrumental in a citizen getting their property returned.

        As to the below quote;

        If no one claims it, it's your in 90 days.
        Long ago true in Ca. Cops would do a BGC for stolen, etc. And hold for 90 days. Then it became "finders keepers".

        Now gotta do the LEGR BS, then only get it back if it is in AFS under your name. Don't know if you can "Self Register" a found gun in police property rm?

        OP has RENO as Loc. So suggest he check current NV laws. I don't know if they have yet adopted a similar LEGR BS.

          The thread about lanyards? Maybe there's a cowboy missing his shooting iron.

              Lose it in a boating accident or turn it into the Po Po.

                    Why would you lose a gun you have nothing to do with? If it was a murder gun that was tossed by a shooter, why commit a felony?

                    Seems like the OP did the right thing.

                            shoot it at a wild boar and make bacon out of it, then throw the gun into the storm drain
