I mean that would only be an issue if you also ignore the sign at the front door regarding entering with a gun.

How would you turn it in then? Wait outside until a policeman walked by? Or leave it on the door step wrapped in a blanket like a poor lil abandoned baby?

^^ Use some common sense. Call ans ask what they want you to do maybe. Do not put your prints on it. Maybe bag it.

          Call the coppers.

If it was stolen. The owner will get it back.

If it was used in a crime. The gun may solve the crime.

Call the cops and tell them what you found and do they want to come get it?

Having walked into the W.L.A. police station and telling the desk guy I found a pistol and it was in the bag I'm holding. He just asked for the bag. My name and PH# and where I found it. He also thanked me for bringing it in and I was on my way.

          No drama.

So taking it to BLM land to have some fun before turning it in is out of the question... oh well.

I would ask if I could keep the gun if it was not reported stolen and no one claimed it within a year or maybe even three years.

not one person said "wait 10 days"

Of course the answer is to turn it in. Call first.

Well I did call the 911 line.
                        I did not touch it.
They took all my info and location. Asked me more questions about Corona Virus than the Gun. The virus questions where if I had any kind of contact or symptoms
Officer showed up, took pictures, pulled loaded mag out, nothing in chamber, bagged it and took more info from me down.
Funny thing is was never asked if I was caring a gun.

I did ask if I get Dibs if no owner found and the officer just laughed!

They asked about the virus? That's comical. How is that relevant at all?

He laughed when you asked for it? Man, whatever happened to finders keepers.

The virus questions where if I had any kind of contact or symptoms. Probably if officer needed to wear a face mask when making contact with me?

I'd call the local PD and have them come pick it up. Take a few pictures of it, where it was. You do not want to (I don't) be schlepping around in possession of a loaded gun not belonging to you.

Kinda like finding a dead body while hicking. You want as little contact or involvement as possible.
