Gun insurance: suggestions?

Is the NRA insurance officially dead?

When I was researching firearms insurance a few years ago I did look at NRA insurance but it was garbage compared to other insurance options I found.

I added one rider to my home policy for my guns and another for wife's jewelry. I thought it was reasonable and I only need a serial number for any gun valued over $3500.
Given that a standard homeowner's policy covers a measly $2500 or so for firearms in case of theft or fire, the rider seemed like a good idea. Talk to your agent.
