During a PPT transaction at a FFL gun store, what exactly happens at the store?
Do I have to wait 10 days, just like when I bought a gun from the store?

Yes, you must wait 10 days.

A PPT is a sale from one CA-resident non-FFL to another, using a CA FFL because CA law requires it.

It's otherwise generally the same as a dealer sale - you must have FSC and ID and proof of residency for a handgun; you will fill out Federal 4473 and CA DROS paperwork; you will pay the DROS fee and a $10 dealer fee. You will need a lock before the dealer can deliver a handgun to you. You must do the safety demo.

Make sure you have your FSC, ID, 2nd form of ID (e.g. car reg.) with your current address.
(There are other ways, let us know if you have a problem.)
If a case is not included with the gun, bring one.

Everything is exactly the same, except that you are paying the private party for the gun not the shop. So yes you still need to have a FSC, still have to go through a 10 day wait, safety demo unless you're exempt from the demo.

The reason why I’m asking is I’m in So Cal and seller with the gun I want is in Nor Cal. Does that mean I have to go buy the gun from seller at a store and then 10 days later go back up again to pick up the gun from the store?

I got a gun through a store and I was approved without any problems. But can DOJ deny for some reason? What happens if DOJ doesn’t approve? Does the gun go back to the seller and I get the money back? How does that exactly work?

Yep. Or you can pay him extra to meet you halfway or closer. If you’re not exempt, it cannot be shipped to you, hence FTF only.

Make sure the FFL releases on undetermined. If so, as long as there is no denial, you can pick up after the 30th day.

If you've previously purchased one in the past and got approved no reason why you shouldn't be approved with the second purchase, unless something changed in between that and now.

If you get denied from the DOJ, depending on how willing the seller is on working with you. You will lose the gun as the FFL will not deliver it to you (goes back to seller), the money you paid the seller (FFL is not going to refund you) and all the fee's you paid for the DROS.

That's why make sure you can legally pass the DOJ background check and have all necessary docs before committing on a purchase as some seller will not refund, and if they do it'll most likely be a partial refund due to wasting their time.

Even active duty COPS get "DELAYED AND DENIED". Some aren't even allowed to buy ammo.

Ca-DOJ randomly "Delayed" a great many lawful purchasers, JUST CAUSE THEY COULD. For years prior to this Corona Crud.

ALWAYS DETERMINE IF AN FFL DELIVERS ON AN "UNDETERMINED" STATUS. BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM.

IF THEY DO NOT. TELL THEM TO PISS OFF.

NEVER, EVER DO BUSINESS WITH AN FFL THAT DOES NOT DELIVER ON "UNDETERMINED STATUS".

This will be my first time doing a ppt, so I have few more questions.

When does the transfer of funds take place?
And what’s the recommenced method of payment?
Do you guys recommend drafting a bill of sales?
What personal info (if any) is shared between seller and buyer?
Any other things I should look out for?

Hope everything goes well. If it does, I’ll definitely be buying more through the forum than going through the store. Store is so limited because of the CA roster.

To answer your questions...

Transfer of funds takes place at the FFL where you do the PPT with the seller. The method of payment will almost always be cash. You won't need a bill of sale as you will get a copy of the DROS form. It won't have the price you paid the seller on it, however, it makes no difference as it is a legal document. The seller can't back out of the sale after the DROS is initiated. No personal information other then name will be needed. The seller will also receive a copy of the DROS form from the FFL, however, it will only have your name on it not your address. It is a straight forward transaction. Nothing else to look out for. The FFL will have records of the sellers DL and contact information.
