    Good afternoon,

Does anyone know of a good gunsmith with a type 7 FFL here in California that they would recommend?

What are you trying to do? Most gunsmiths have a "specialty". I would hate to send you to a 1911 smith for work on a Glock.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

It will help if you mention the area you are in. Calif is a big place.

You don't need a 07 FFL for that, and most 07 FFLs wouldn't do it.

Most Gunsmiths are 01 FFLs. If you commission this work to be done, a 01 FFL can do it. The only time a 07 FFL would be needed is if no one asked them for this work to be done and the FFL bought it to do the work then offer it for resale.

OP is in Socal and I am guessing he wants a NAA Mini Master cut down.

OP if you are willing to ship, check with Maraviov in Woodland 530-668-4867

Yeap! Southern California, how did you know? It also is a mini master the one that I want to cut down. Are yoi hacking my mind? LOL.
Thanks for letting me know about the 7 vs 1 FFL. I was confused because a gunsmith was the one who told me that supposedly only a type 7 FFL could cut the barrel down since it would be manufacturing a new firearm.
I'm definitely willing to ship. I'll reach out to Maraviov. Do you happen to have an email for him?

            Thanks

If you need barrel work, why not call Randall? He is the guru and he is on this forum.

If the gunsmith is not cutting a barrel down to make a NFA firearm, and they are doing the job as requested by a customer on a gun the customer already owns, then they don't need to be 07. There was a big scare job done by the Obama administration and that confused the issue of what the differences between gunsmith and manufacturer was, and I guess some gunsmiths still don't get it.

Maraviov is a 01 FFL. He is well known for installing Python barrels on Ruger and S&W actions, and other revolver mods.

I don't have email for Maraviov but he does answer the phone.

I agree he could do it I am just not sure if he works on mini revolvers. But it never hurts to ask, send him a PM here:

Gunsmiths are too skilled to work on a Glock, nothing more than an armorer at most for a Glock.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

The barrel looks to be one piece with the frame.
I do all types of barrel work, but without being able to remove the barrel, I don't have a GOOD way to crown the barrel after I cut it down.
I normally do that type of work with a single point cutter after the barrel is setup in the lathe.
With the frame as part of the barrel, I don't see a way to do this particular job with my normal workflow.

If I had any of the ghetto tooling that pilots off the barrel, I could saw the barrel off and stand the frame straight up in the mill and indicate the bore and then run a crown cutter down on the barrel.
I just don't work that way.

I suppose I could do it with a boring bar but that's boring (pun intended)...
