Your Plan Against a Home Invasion?

Not a lot of people are going to like this, but it's an important and life saving option one must not ignore. Especially with kids, family members under your protection...

Flee if you can safely reduce the threat.

Leave with your family if you can, call cops. let them deal with it.

You can do so armed. De-escalate.

Or if unable..

Retreat and lock, barricade, you and yours in a defensible space. Call cops. Tell them where you are and your armed.

Shooting people can result in great suckage to quality of life.

Do you have a legal defense fund? as offered for people with concealed carry permits.

You don't need a permit to have one. They are extremely affordable.

You just sucessfully defended your family with your firearm, saved them. But that bad guy is very dead.
Now you don't lose the house when the civil suit comes from scumbag you just killed family trying to win the ghetto lottery.

Some of them will help pay for therapy, family members or you could be severely rattled by the whole thing.

They also can provide critical post shooting training on how to deal with the first cops on scene, how to present yourself, what to say and when to shut up.


Better to think about this now then later.


And by all means, stop the threat if there are no other options.
I'm not saying don't shoot or don't plan.
I'm saying include all options.

It's hard, because most people, men especially we want to fight that threat.

With professional training, hopefully including active/ex police, you will begin to understand what does and does not happen in real home invasions. Most people want to play John Wick scenarios.

How many times do you repeat this? I mean, I can see repeating it once and having 2 dogs, but 3, 4, 5 or more times seems like way too many dogs!

It can be a bit hard to get specific because every home is different. But basically...

Good locks
Good doors
Good windows
Good fences
Good lighting
Good alarm system
Good camera system
Good dog
Good gun that is either on you or easily and quickly reachable

The goal is to establish layers and to make your place a less attractive target than your neighbors. If you can create a strong fence with a locked gate, followed by a locked metal gate that insulates your front door/entry, followed by that front door being strong and reinforced, that's three layers somebody has to get through. Add lighting, cameras, motion detectors in the open spaces between each gate, and you have made your home fairly unattractive and bought yourself some time as the invaders work to get through each area.

You need to consider: layered physical security, training (firearms, tactics, mindset), a plan that fits your home and spouse or anybody you cohabitate with.

Reinforced kick proof doors with 1/8” steel plates and 5” bolts . Alarm system that’s on when we are in for the night. My yard has been made painful to access. I carry at home and sleep with a gun within reach. We have practiced drills for both earthquakes and home invasion.
I have a siren mounted outside my home to alert neighbors. I have good relations with my neighbors and we look out for each other. I’m ultra low key about my guns and being pro 2 a to not make my home and family a target . I have carry insurance from USCCA and the number of a chosen lawyer on speed dial right after the local police dept.
I’ve got a homeless camp within walking distance from my house. A neighbor chased off a guy going through my truck this morning. The best defense is creating a community of neighbors that look out for each other.

Went through a home invasion years ago and have upgraded home security protocol due to it. Although I was much younger when it happened and things turned out better then they could have I now keep guns in just about every room in the house.

I also moved away to a quieter neighborhood and rely heavily on security doors and anything that can slow the perpetrators down. I make sure everything is locked down at all times and I won't be surprised the next time like I was the first time.

throughout the house, I left battery operated panic remotes for the alarm system. I figure i should have enough time to hit a panic button.
