Depends on if you think you will want to do fast quad load reloads. Might want to look at some JM 930, 40s. They are pre cut where it needs to be for easier loading and come with upgraded features that you might add in the future, saves you the time.

I have a Benelli (clone - owned by the same company) Stoeger m3000 tactical. It has problems with light bird shot too. So think about the purpose of this shotgun.

Think about gas vs inertia, I think there's a recoil and cleaning difference?

      1187 Remington

Interchangeable chokes and rifle sights. The modified choke keeps the buckshot column together out to 30 yds or so and with the rifled choke will accurately shoot slugs to at least 100 yards. The 1187 is pretty much bulletproof and very reliable.

Many combat type competitions require the use of a side saddle carrier. If that OPs intention I would make certain its easily available w/o modifications.
IIRC the MESA from Costa Mesa makes the best version.

m4...gas gun. m2...inertia gun. Remington Versa Max is a bit cheaper and they basically copied the m4 gas system. Plus it has options for longer barrels where the m4 does not. The FN SLP is a nice gun too, I'm told. It also depends on what you're intending on doing with it. If you want a defensive gun, the m4 is chock full of awesome. If you want to hunt with it also, you better be content to stick with an 18.5" barrel if you go with the m4. Because there are no barrel upgrades. If you're doing 3 Gun, the m2 is king. But lots of folks are using the FN and the Versa Max.

ANY imported shotgun is going to fall under 922R rules which means they will come from the factory with a 5 round magazine. You can replace the magazine on, say, the m4 with a 7 rounder but if it's a California part, you are required to convert two of the other "named parts" to California parts. So if you intend to do this...and most people do...plan on another $200-$300 over the sales price for the additional parts upgrade.

And if this isn't making any sense to you, welcome to 922R. Freedom Fighter Tactical and Carrier Comp both have "white papers" up on their sites that explain 922R. That should be the first place you start reading. 922R is a FEDERAL law btw...not your normal California B.S.

I'll just add to this, CarrierComp is a fantastic company and makes a fantastic product. Their 7-shell tube is higher quality (actually, MUCH higher quality) than the Benelli-made tubes. Someone once quipped, and I agree, that CC does a better job matching Benelli's finish than Benelli.

When I bought my tube some 5 years ago or so, there was a 6 month lead time, and it was worth every minute (no idea what kind of lead time they might have currently). Plus, he's a veteran, and a good dude.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Mine also wouldn't run some low base loads at first.

I broke it in using some full horse powered 3" mag. Ran the light stuff after that.

I love my versamax competition tactical. Eats everything I've fed it without a hiccup and does so clean.
Very little if any regular maintenance is required. They take benelli parts too
