    ID needed for gun purchase

This is probably a dumb question but is there a set ID requirement for a gun purchase or can it vary from gun store to gun store? I don't buy a lot of guns, maybe 2-4 a year but everyone has asked for different set of ID or address verification the past 3-4 months. The most recent one I did asked for a SDGE bill for verification and wouldn't take the actual letter from SDGE that says ADDRESS VERIFICATION. I know it's different for pistol and long gun. Thought I'd throw it out here since I'm getting a little cabin fever.

You need a CA driver license and a second form of ID, utility bill, mrtgage, etc.

Applies to all firearm purchases now.

Easiest way is to call the LGS and ask what they require. You will also need a valid Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC).

CCW ID is great also. And if it's a handgun then you might also need an FSC card that has a 5 year expiration date.

            You need:

            - Current California Drivers licence or ID card for proof of identity. If you dont have a REAL ID, you will need to provide a valid passport, Passport card or Green card in addition.
            - Proof of residency in Ca...vehicle registration or utility bill are most common but there are others
            - Firearms safety card (for pistol/rifle purchase OR Hunter Safety card for rifle only

The utility bill, mortgage, vehicle registration are not proof of identity, they are proof that you are a CA resident.

If you don’t have REAL ID, you can also use birth certificate in lieu of a passport.

With a current CCW no need for FSC even for handguns.

Likelihood the OP asking this question has a CCW?

I was responding specifically to tabascoz28 post, not the original request from the OP.

                    Clear enough?

Yes I do have my CCW. The reason I asked was the amount of items I had to produce for my last transfer (long gun):
                          CA DL (not REAL ID)
                          passport
                          vehicle reg
                          FSC
                          SDGE bill

When I offered my CCW they said they didn't need/want/wasn't necessary.

                              CCW satisfies the FSC.
