Help me pick my first 1911

The Colt you posted is not C&R exempt nor is it Olympic Pistol exempt. It is a

current Gold Cup NM and the page specifically says Restrictions: California.

If you read more than the first few posts on the forum page you linked to you will see that many disagree that the Gold Cup is exempt for either of the two reasons I mentioned.

Even if the OP was able to find a roster exempt Colt pistol, which I seriously doubt he will, it would not fall into his $1,000 to $1,500 price range.

The link I sent out from Colt was just s reference for the OP to see what it looks like. I’ve added my own pics for reference (check the tag).

Anyways, take it as you see it. I don’t really care. I have a GCNM and so many other CGners that legally bought it from a CA LGS. Mine was about $1,400 before taxes and fees, and there were others who got it for less.

If he wants it, I suggest to the @OP to check out and/or ask around for LGS that may have it.

I don’t know if Rodralig is just bragging because he got one or if he really doesn’t know that that limited window of opportunity has closed. But either way, the OP should scratch the Gold Cup National Match off his list.
I wasn't aware that the CA-DOJ had plugged that loophole. Most probably called DOJ to verify and had some LGS to stop selling it.

I take it back what I posted - I agree that the @OP can scratch off the GCNM from list.

I bought a Rock Island 1911-A1 FS. On sale a Kittle's in Colusa for $399.00 a few years back. Same internal function as Colt Series 70 and has a lot of add on goodies as standard features. I have put all kinds of different rounds down range and never had a problem. Just cleaned it (yuck) this week for the first time so that shows how reliable it is. It is way more accurate than I am capable. Also available in .9mm. Cheers!

I saw a Hickok45 video featuring the RIA 1911. He was more than satisfied with the way it performed and had no malfunctions of any kind. When he broke it down he commented on how well it was made. His overall opinion was that it's a lot of gun for the money.
I believe most of the 1911s from the Philippines are made by Armscor International.

            1. Springfield vs Sig vs other brand
            2. Difference between Springfield models (MC operator, range officer, TRP etc). Have no idea what they mean other than price diff. (looking for a full size)
            3. age-old debate 9mm vs 45 ACP
            4. worth paying extra buying off-roster or just buy California compliance model?
            5. full rail vs no rail
            Thanks.
Hey, Bmeow, You're right, very popular topic, but it's an interesting one, since there are so many choices.

            1. I actually like both Springfield and Sig.
            2. I really like the idea of a 9mm 1911 since I already shoot 9mm in all my other guns.
            3. I feel like Ca-compliant 1911's offer quite a few options
            5. I have a bed-side gun with a rail and light, so I would just as soon have a 1911 without a rail, since I would probably be carrying the 1911 in a holster daily.

That being said, for about $1000, I feel like the Sig stainless rail is a really nice .45acp rig, and is the one Sig that I've actually shot, other than a TacOps which was REALLY nice.

For Springfield, for about $800, I'd go with the loaded model with it's beavertail grip safety. I see a loaded stainless 9mm on Turner's site for about $100 more.

What do you want to do with it? Why do you want it?

I have one from 1943, just because. I have a match gun for bullseye shooting, it is really accurate and fun.

                45 ACP for the win.
Kimber's can be overpriced especially since they use mim parts. Generally they're good quality except for their magazines.
They are probably the worst 1911 magazines on the market PERIOD.

I put Wilson combat magazines in mine and have not had an issue since.!

Why be limited with rounds. Skip the 1911

As you can tell from my avatar I like Kimber 1911s and I agree about the Wilson Combat Magazines. I use them in the Custom II and Pro Carry II. I have two ordered for the Ultra Carry II and they should arrive soon.
They are not cheap but you get your money's worth.

I don't own 1911s for their magazine capacity, I own them because I like them. If I decided to use my Kimber Custom II or Pro Carry II for home defense they hold 7 + 1 and I'm comfortable with that.

I own Colt, Sig, Springfield, S&W, and Kimber. They are all wonderful, but if I could only own one it's got to be a Colt right?

It might be a tough call but if I had to pick only one of my 1911s it would probably be my Colt 1991 that I bought new back in '98. It's the no frills version without the extras that are on my Kimber Custom II and Springfield Armory loaded.
Maybe it's just the tradition of the Colt, I don't know.

That's what it is for me. Mine is a plain-jane 80's series, but it eats everything and it's a Colt. I have much fancier 1911's, but it's the horse that matters.

I have a RIA FS Tactical; got it specifically for a truck gun, for a number of reasons.

                              1) it's a 1911, as are all my OTHER pistols.
                              2) it's their top-of-the-line model. If you're gonna buy a CHEAP gun, at least get the BEST one they make.
                              3) if it gets stolen, I'll be TICKED... but NOT like I would be, if one of my GOOD SA's or Kimbers got stolen.

That said, it's a decent shooter, and does exactly what I need, which is - cover my BUTT, if I'm out and about.

                              FYI

                              1) Yes, I DO have my valid PA LTCF, which allows me to carry concealed IN the vehicle, and
                              2) In these days of property crimes, no LONGER being... "crimes" ... I have removed ALL my guns from my trucks, for safe storage in the house. For all you professional worry-warts.

buying 1911 not cuz of round counts, besides it's only 3 rounds less than CA limit anyways.
