I also wouldn't waste Balistol on it until your done.

Then, with eye protection on, strip down the bold and clean it up good.

You should check youtube for how to.

^^^ THIS!. I don't care how you clean it, just make sure you DISASSEMBLE the bolt completely, and get ALL the cosmo out of it!

Man that took forever! wd40 worked ok. Wouldn't say it melted the cosmo away but it worked. Then I hit the metal parts with hot water dried them and hit everything with Balistol. Rifles in seems to be in good shape. Barrel/piston is clean. Bolt is clean etc. Few places under the wood had some corrosion spots of rust, but mostly in good shape.

BUT I can't get the trigger group to go back in. Everything on this rifle is super tight. Was hard to get the trigger group out. Was hard to get the bolt apart. the Gas system was tough to get back together. Everything is tight.

Any suggestions on getting the trigger group back in? It's hooked into the mag properly. But the pin/tab that comes down off the back of the receiver and hooks into the back of the trigger guard, doesn't want to go in. Looks like the barrel and receiver are in the stock properly, as low as they can go.

                Is your safety on?
I think it's either the hammer or trigger or safety that blocks that little tab from snapping in sometimes.
I think the rifle needs to have the hammer down.
Try different manipulations of the fire control group.

Got it! Turns out i just had to do like three things at once for it to go in. Hold down, push forwards and smack it with a hammer...

                      DONT force ANYTHING for one.
First time I took apart mine I was frustrated but in the end I learned to take a deep breath and work slow, some of the parts may be tight but when you line them up JUST right they snick into place.Once you learn the ropes it will be easy.

Eventually everything went into place. No idea why it goes sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. Guess cleaning this thing will be adventure every time.

What’s the consensus on refinishing the stock? It’s vintage military it’s suppose to be ugly? Cheap rifle go for it?
