From what I saw in this video and news stories, law enforcement confiscated guns when they were forcing people to evacuate and when they saw them in public. I did not hear that they were going by lists.

Katrina was such a Sh1T$how didn't Gov Arnold sign a law to prevent that form happening in CA? I think Pres Bush signed something similar on the Fed level as well. At least that's how I remember it- YMMV?

The Vitter Amendment was passed as part of the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act on September 30, 2006 and it became Public Law 109-295.

Supposed to protect people from seizure of legally owned firearms and prevent forced registration of unregistered firearms. Came about as a response to the seizure of firearms that occurred during the Katrina fiasco.

So yes, we do have some legal protection as of right now. Of course, we all know how the federal government operates - they can always alter the existing law by passing another law.

            Very Simply they asked.
They went door to door in some cases and asked "do you have any weapons?"
People of course thought it was ok to say yes.
Then were told they had to give them up.
Saw several interviews of people who this happened to.

plenty of videos out there of LE going door to door - several different agencies and some National Guard

odd how they had time to go door to door but no time to respond to actual looting or home break in calls

OP thanks for the questions and thanks for everyone else clearing up this potential panic. There was another thread where people were speculating on when the gov was going start taking guns...

Thanks for the detailed info. Weather or not Big Bro (CA) or even bigger Bro (Fed) will stick to it is anyone's guess. We're in strange times now for serious.

Also videos of NOPD officers in uniform, taking part in the looting.

Just something that occurred to me with all the martial law talk recently. I understand that the situation is not quite the same as Katrina but I realized that I didn't know the details of what happened there.

Thank you for all the info guys.
