Squib round

I had one. I caught it before I fired the second round. It was a 9mm. It didn't make any noise. The hammer dropped and that was it. I was thinking, "I thought I had a cartridge in the chamber." I charged it and an empty, shell came out. It was really dirty. Then it dawned on me, it was a squib round.

I dropped the mag and emptied the chamber. Sure enough, round in the barrel.

I had one happen during an IDPA match, that I thought was a FTF.
Did a "tap & rack" and thankfully the next round didn't go into battery.

Bolt did not close on the next round

I know a few folks who have had KB’s.

Just like a hand fire. If Ammo is old or has gotten wet- wait 1-2 minutes before opening it up

I have had two in 26 years of reloading. As mentioned it felt very obvious. I have since purchased brass rods that are each caliber specific to remove them form the barrel in the future. I used one once and it work great. I found them on eBay.

I carry a 8" dowel rod in my range bag. Used it once.

Not had any from my reloads " knock on wood". Seen several and a few blown up guns from them.

A long time ago, I had a squib once when shooting my Glock 21 - we were doing some failure to stop drills. I thought my second shot was a dud round so I quickly racked the slide and ejected a fired brass (unknowingly); chambered next round and fired. Slide went back but would not go forward due to bulged barrel. I was using one of my reloads; hasn't happened again but I have a length of brass rod in my shooting bag just in case.

All of my squibs have jammed my next round. None have made it so far forward as to cause trouble. If you have really loose bullets and you pushed your next one in really hard maybe...

Had a squib with some wolf 7.62x39. Wasn’t sure what happened so decided to drop the cleaning rod down the barrel and sure enough found a bullet stuck in the barrel.

Had a squib on my own reload .50 Beowulf round many moons ago. To this day I am not sure which distraction caused it, but it certainly taught me a lesson and it hasn't happened since. I immediately knew what happened, so no damage, but extracting the lodged bullet was a bit of a pain.

[Thoughts]

I've had two. One I didn't catch, and destroyed a Glock barrel. The next one didn't eject, and I had to tap the bullet out of the barrel. Same gun, same batch of cartridges. The remnants of that purchase are trash-bound.

PSA for all the lefties out there. Pay very close attention when shooting right handed rifles as the explosion can go across your face instead of away from you.
