Have a plan. Sell a few that you really don't want to keep. After that let it sink in for a while and see how you feel. Then, decide whether or not you want to sell more. I regret selling all of my handguns in the early '80's to raise cash. One or two would be nice to have right now...especially ones that have become collectible and have value.

I have never bought guns to collect or for investments. I buy them because I want to use them. I have sold some that I no longer liked using, sold some that were duds, and sold a few to buy something else. I have never regretted selling any of them except one...a 1911. I rushed out and bought another as soon as I could.

Having extra guns around is a great way to have extra funds available to buy other things. Guns always sell as long as they are not junk.

When I split up all my dad's guns after his death I only kept one. My brothers and nephew divided up the rest. I let them go because they meant so much more to the others than myself. I then spent ten years buying the type of guns my dad had for myself. It was a fun adventure.

Sell what you want and never look back. You can always find others.

I'm not a collector, I'm more off an accumulator. I spent a lot of time shopping around to get just the guns I wanted which is why I'll never sell any of them. Some of my older guns sell today for two or three times what I paid for them but that wasn't why I bought them. All three of my children are interested in guns and they will inherit mine when the time comes. They'll have to arm wrestle to see who gets the gun safe.

So I guess the questions are

          1. I am nuts for wanting to cut back ? No, people change as they age. Cutting back is natural

          2. Has Anyone been down this road ? Yep, with fishing equipment

          3. What do you guys Prefer a handful or dozen ? Keep what’s necessary, I’m a hunter so most non hunting guns usually get sold

          4. has all the new or old gun laws in CA killed your love for shooting? It’s made it more of a pain in the *** to do some things for sure

          5. If you can only have one gun law overturned in California what would it be ? no more roster or be able to buy hi cap mags again ? Lead ban for hunting

          6. If you could pick up right now a move. What state ? Utah, conservative and most beautiful. Kansas second choice

I've thinned the herd as well. Took quality over quantity and then reverted back to quantity for 22LR rifles, because I love rimfire guns.

            I think a 22 pistol and a rifle are a must.

Some ways I've thinned the herd: I used to have stainless and blued of same gun, but chose one finish. Got rid of guns I don't shoot much. Got rid of guns I don't shoot well with.

Possibly. Not for the scaling back part in general but you tend to lose a decent chunk of money when you sell guns. The damage has already been done. I don't think I'd sell them at this point for the sake of selling. If you've got stuff you simply don't use and can use the money for something else, then go ahead.

              2. Has Anyone been down this road ?
I have not. I've been very conscientious about the things I've bought though and I don't have a large collection. Almost everything I have gets shot on a regular basis except for one gun that I may sell at some point

              3. What do you guys Prefer a handful or dozen ?
I'm more about the applications. I have what makes sense to me and I have some redundancy either for my own use or to outfit close family. Try to figure out what makes sense to you vs. arbitrarily naming a number. Remember too that if things do ever go south, nobody will ever say, "I have too many guns." In bad times, they can always be sold/traded or used to outfit like minded individuals. Which is another reason I probably wouldn't sell them since the money has already been spent.

              4. has all the new or old gun laws in CA killed your love for shooting?
No. It's has, however, made me angry. And I refuse to let these A Holes win because this is EXACTLY what they want...to make gun ownership so onerous that people give them up. I take great pleasure in knowing my guns piss off a lot of liberal tyrants

              5. If you can only have one gun law overturned in California what would it be ? no more roster or be able to buy hi cap mags again ?
I'm not choosing. I want my damn cake back!

              6. If you could pick up right now a move. What state ?
Probably Washington but I have no illusions about the gun laws there. I estimate that WA has 5-10 years left before it becomes fully Californicated. The number of "safe" states is really dwindling...Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Texas, Florida, maybe South Carolina...and perhaps a few others. But the question is for how long? For example, there are a lot more Democrats in Texas than there used to be. Gun rights are under attack all over and that isn't going to change. And while it's absolutely important to get involved and fight locally wherever you go, we MUST get some big wins at the Federal level if we hope to secure the long term future of gun rights.

Small update. Sold off a couple of another guns n again feel a more of a burden has been lifted.

I have also decided on my first Legacy Gun for my first born son. ( ordering in Monday)

It’s going to be a CZ P01. I wanted it to be a SP01 but the decocker model isn’t on the roster n I wanted a rail.

Now I just need to pick my next Legacy gun for my first baby girl.

I am doing that now. Gonna be selling 3 40cal. Just keep one.
Sell a pistol and pickup a zev technologies trigger kit for your wife's shield.
Just put one on my shield. What a world of difference. But on the shield you need to remove the rear sight to change a spring. I took mine to the gunsmith.

After I sell the pistols. Then use the money to add a red dot to my glock 21sf. Already added a trigger kit.

Already sold my odd ball calibers.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Everyone has their reasons for buying and selling the guns they own. I have collected more than most guns stores over the years and only sold five and four of those went back to original owners. I just considered them on loan to me. No one knows what the future will hold and having different calibers and everything from flintlocks to modern day steel guns (no plastic here) is my way to be prepared for anything. Along the way i will enjoy the engravings, carved stocks, and other oddities I find along the way. Never knock a man for selling a gun because I might like it but I do know if my family and friends have to defend themselves there will always be something here for them. But whatever your reasons are make sure you want to do it and then either sell or put it back in the gun safe. If i leave this state all my guns go with me because I cna change the cali-compliant back to 49 state legal and if I wanted them here I'll want them wherever I am going.

I don't think anybody's crazy for wanting to sell off Glocks... now if you were offing Old Smiths or Colts,I'd say you were 5150.
