Steel Targets question

old fire hose. I have a torch or a cutting disk for my 4.5" angle grinder for the bolts if I need it.
Much better than chain and such. Will take multiple hits from those that cannot shoot before needing replaced

Brother went to bicycle shop, ask for the tire throwaways of those expensive tires. He cut those up for steel hangers.

They're a full of bullet jacket shreds, & have not tore yet. & act like shock absorbers. best idea I've seen to date, & free to boot

With regard to obtaining fire hose: Stop by, or call your local fire station. Hose that fails annual pressure testing is discarded. You might be able to get some for free.

- what width do you guys use for fire hose? i was looking on ebay and they have 1.5" to 6.5".
- and how do you make the holes? do you guys cut an X through it or use a hole puncher?

I think my hose is 2", flattened it is about 3" wide.

Originally I went to a few local fire stations to ask about obtaining old decommissioned firehose, but they all said the same thing - old firehose gets returned to maintenance for disposal. This was Riverside County Fire.

Within a couple of weeks I found a roll of firehose at an estate sale for ten bucks. Got lucky I guess.

^^^thanks! i added that hole puncher set on my list to buy when i go to harbor freight. also, a fire station probably 2 lights away from harbor freight and since it's on the way, i'll swing by to see if they have some that i can take home.

In San Diego they consolidate their old hoses at the point loma (around Midway) location, but they are happy to give it away for free.

Reinforced rubber straps are 100x better than chain or cable.

Chain is better if you hit it with a bullet, but if you dont, it doesn't matter. I used rope.

You can use a string of S hooks. If one gets shot in half, you only need to replace that one piece, not the entire length.

If you know of a welder, have him weld some steel bar to the back of the plates with a bent "hook" at the end. Hang the steel so it swings when bullets strike it. Cheap rebar works great. Weld one end to the rear of the metal target near the top and at the top portion, simply bend it with the use of a hot torch. Fashion it into a hook at the end and just hang it on a cross bar or a 2x4 which is easily replaceable if needed.

Fortunately for me, I have my own metal shop and I weld. I have made dozens upon dozens of "gongs" and smaller steel targets that all hang down from a cross bar with legs simply pushed into the dirt. It works great and you'll never ever have to worry about the "strap" made from a soft material, breaking. My targets will last a life time, as I'm still shooting the same targets I made nearly 25 years ago.

lucky for you. i like the idea and too bad i don't know anybody or have welding tools to make it happened. that would be very convenient when transporting back and forth to the range.
