I've used chain, rubber bungee cords and firehose. The firehose has worked the best and has lasted longer for me. Just bring extra hose, bolts, nuts and washers, and tools.

You can get used firehose from Ebay pretty cheap.

Old fire hose or old conveyor belt.

I shoot steel a lot. The problem I had with chains and straps is the nuts and bolts used to secure them will get damage from being shot or bent from the impact. This makes taking them off really hard. Usually have to be hacksawed off.

Now I use a piece of rebar and bend it into a C or S shape. It can be easily taken on and off. Also, it rings louder since it hangs pretty loose.

I weld a ring to the back of steel targets to hang them with a chain so you don't shoot the nuts. It also makes the target hang at an angle so it directs shrapnel into the ground. I like the chains because if you shoot one in half you just grab a S hook and put the pieces back together.

glad i asked or wife & i would have short range time if we break the hangers.

i'll experiment with all the suggestions above and see what i like best.

thank you all for great hangers ideas/options.

Be a good shot. I've used firearm locks in a pinch after chains break.

                      Firehose.

Been running the same straps for a couple years now with no signs of wear yet. That's two straps per plate x 6 plates. Also use to hang bowling pins.

Old firehose is a great idea.

                          - what width do you guys use for fire hose? i was looking on ebay and they have 1.5" to 6.5".
                          - and how do you make the holes? do you guys cut an X through it or use a hole puncher?
