    Aiming with my P229

The only way I can aim consistently is if I put the front dot over my target AND have the front dot about half a dot higher than the two side dots, like in my picture. That seems wrong to me. I haven't seen sights where the dots weren't supposed to be lined up in a row.

Hot dang!! Good shooting! What are the blades of the sights, the top edges?

Yes, the top edges. Make sure the top edge of the front sight is your focus.

if you only have one sig then taking it to a shop makes sense. but if you have more than one sig and like to tinker, i'd buy one. you can bring the tool to the range and sight your guns to your satisfaction.

i have changed a lot of our sigs (from p239s, p229s & p226s). i have 3 x-rays and couple of meprolights (front - green & rear - yellow), the rest are sig nite-sights.

Are the sights a matching set?

I have no idea. I bought it used and the rear sight has no markings. I'll try shooting it stabilized and see what it does next time I go shooting.

Your sights probably need to be corrected by replacing the front or rear sight. I have a P226 that was a b1tch to sight in. It was shooting way high. My P226 9mm uses sights for a .40. Some Sig 9mms are like that. Now that I have the correct sights, it shoots like a lazer. Sigs are the trickiest to sight in.

Lighter bullets move faster and recoil less before the bullet leaves the barrel so they will print lower on a target.

Without knowing what specific ammo and what distance the sights are set for, it's not possible to determine where the bullets should be landing on target with different conditions.
Your needing to hold high could simply be because the sights were set for 7yds and you are shooting at 10yds.
Or the gun could be setup for heavier bullets.
Or it could be the way you drip the gun or your stance.

There is a chance it had tritium sights on it and before it was sold, the shop or person swapped them out for whatever he could find laying around so they are mismatched. Or myanus has extra gravity (too much turkey)

the link above is a great resource.

shoot it at 25 yard (factory setting) with the aid of rest to see if it's on target or off. this will give a starting point and go from there.
