    Range or distance finding apps?

Ast the title says. If any of you are using an app to find distances what is it and how do you like it. For Android or apple.

You want a range-finder? It's not a phone app (although the new Ipad may have such a capability), but it's a thing you look through that measures range.

Or, are you looking for help with the geometry?

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

I guess a gps distance app or measuring app is what I mean. Something that you can set points and measure distance or track you while your going to set up a target. I've seen some people on you tube use them but nobody says what app they are using. And all the ones I see in the app store seem to be some kind of golf app, lol. Something like a gps map that will tell you distances from point to point if that makes sense. I know my google map will do that but I mean yards and also track me as I set up the targets. I'm going out this sunday and I dont have a range finder so I'm just looking for something to download and get me by.

Google earth. Use the ruler/ distance measuring tool.

You can use the measuring tool on Google Maps. On the mobile app, turn on GPS, drop a pin at the target, walk back to the firing line/firing position and then press and hold to drop a pin. Touch the words "Dropped Pin" and then the screen will change and you'll see the words 'Measure Distance'. Move the pointer to the first pin/terrain feature you are shooting on and it will give you a distance.

There are apps you can use to track your walks and hikes using GPS on your phone, but I find them to be inaccurate in rural areas.

I was going to say fitness apps. If you don't need to be real accurate, just measure a distance and walk it a bunch of times and figure your average step distance.

I never thought about the hiking apps. That's a good idea.

I'll give this a try. Only ever used google maps for navigation.
