where can i buy replacement foam for a hardcase? is there a particular terminology i should use when searching online for the dense, cuttable type used in gun cases?
can't seem to search correctly and keep getting all types of unrelated craft or pillow foams.

you want closed cell kaizen foam is you want to be able to peel away different depths of pockets.

do not use open cell foam if you intend the case for long term storage as this type of foam can hold moisture. it is okay for range trips.

The real trick is once you get it setup buy a few cans of plasti dip spray and coat it a few times. It will help hold the foam together against all the sharp edges.

Another option, and particularly for rifles, is to skip the foam and buy a padded rifle case that fits inside the pelican case. In this manner you can leave the heavy pelican case at the hotel (when you travel) and just use the soft case.

If you are near an Army Navy surplus you can get good foam for a very low price. Remnants cut from larger blocks. Very good, very cheap.

I just received my “mycasebuilder” foam order today. I’ll post up some pictures tomorrow.

It’s a two-layer set of trays to fit two guns and assorted accessories and ammo in a Pelican 1400 case. This makes TSA inspection a snap.

This. They are the most affordable option that I could find when I was looking for custom closed cell foam for one of my pelicans and I was super happy with the end result. I also have caseclub.com products and they are great but there custom foam is more expensive.

Another alternative is that you can take the cheap foam (pic n pluck or whatever it's called) and once you have it the way you want it.....you give it a couple of coats of plasti-dip. It actually works ok. Not as nice as custom closed cell but way better than just ordinary egg crate.

Uncivil Engineer, or anyone else; do you think Flex Seal clear spray will work as will?

I have a couple of cans of the Flex Seal that did not work well for my intended purpose. It does leave a rubberized coating on what ever it's spayed on...and anywhere the spray drifts to.

Theoretically, there should not be any chemical reaction with the firearm and the dried spray. I don't know it's reaction in a closed case in the heat either.

If you have a spare chunk from when you fit it in test it out. If not I would test it on a small spot let it dry and cure. If it looks good hit the entire thing.
