Question: When Selling an Item, is it normal or acceptable for the...

potential buyer to play the victim’s card? i’m new here and recently saw a WTB AK tools in the marketplace, so i sent a message to the poster and was inundated with loooooong messages and texts about this person being a vet, having a terminal illness, being the victim of theft by a family member, about having bills, about being on a pension and how he couldn’t afford it so i should sell my things to him. is that normal? i mean, we all have personal problems and responsibilities and obligations, right? i’m pretty sure my mortgage lender doesn’t care what kind of problems i have, i still have to pay them. why the sob story?

just wondering if anyone on here has had a similar experience

It's not normal, but there are some sleezy people out there that would even make up such stories to get a good deal.
    Don't play their game.

Totally out of line. Do not give him any info, report to mods and block him. Do not do business with him at ANY PRICE!

Sounds like a recipe for drama. If it's not going to be used to pressure a better deal, why bring up anything other than here is the money show me the item. Less drama:happier life for me.

Lots of people have issues, some keep them quite and some let the whole world know on the internet, that being said others personal situations dont affect me in the price Im asking for my items.

In a kind way Id just say, here's my item, here's my price, yes or no, that's all I need to know.

If it is the poster from the add linked here, he has 113 Pos feed back. if hes buying, and your selling, just ignore the sob story and give him your price, he takes it or he doesn't.

As a Vet myself, I find it shameful that someone would use that status to seek sympathy from others to benefit themselves. It's bad enough we have to see them on the street with cardboard signs claiming to be a disabled Vets needing help. I said "claiming" because I've called a few out just to prove they're full of $#it.

Stolen Valor is very common amongst those that are homeless.

I find it hard to believe anyone claiming to be Disabled Vet when pandering. If they were actually disabled with proof, they would get monthly allowances from VA.

And as far as what I have seen at VA hospital in Long Beach, the homeless vets do get help. They just have to be willing to get that help.

After reading the threads referenced by others in this thread regarding your potential buyer, I will reiterate with vigor, that you do not do any business with this guy at all. Regardless of his veracity in the telling of his story or his integrity in a transaction to which I can not speak, the guy is a drama queen to be avoided.

Very true statement. I view Wounded Warriors, and most all the LE widows and orphans funds that solicit by phone or mail to be no better.
