I've taken guns out of state and sold them PPT in a parking lot for cash - no paper anywhere and petfectly legal. CA DOJ has no clue if I have them or not. Multiply this my millions - that's how pointless CA DOJ database is.

I think if LE searched and did not find what they were looking for that would be the end of it as long as the guns they wanted never turned up in CA again. But to use the wanted firearms for anything in CA would be taking a big risk.

The law required all unreported lost or stolen guns prior to the law going into effect to be reported within 5 days of the flaw going into effect. They may be pinche bastards but they are not always stupid.

So, 1st, this law went into effect in July of 2017, and 2nd there is a grandfather clause.
