Yes, I've seen some 1911 cottage industry built guns, being passed off as real Colt 1911s in the Philippines. On the outside they looked like pretty good clones of Colts.
But when I took them apart to clean, the internal parts were not to 1911 specs.Comment

It looks like a Star Model 1922. Are you sure it is 45? It could be a conversion of a 9mm model 1922. But it definitely looks like a model 1922 - I mean 99.95%.
What does it say above the serial number, looks like there is some text there? I also see remnants of text on the left side of the slide. No detail is unimportant when trying to ID, so get us some crystal clear, in focus, diffused lighting, hi-res closeup pics and do not upload them as attachments because that ruins the quality. I think you are right - I can see better now on my iPad. I can clearly make out ALEX VA and before that I believe it says ODIN who did import some Star pistols.
I guess the big question for me now, is it really 45acp? It for sure looks like a model 1922, you can make out ‘AR’ on the slide where it used to say STAR.
There were some model 1920 and model 1921 made in 45acp for export. I guess there must have been some model 1922s made in 45acp also, if that is what OPs gun is chambered for. I would say it is fairly rare. Almost all were 38acp/9mm Largo.Comment
